Bajaj Auto has reached a major milestone in India's electric two-wheeler market, with the Chetak electric scooter crossing 8 lakh cumulative retail sales. According to Vahan data, the company has sold 8,00,085 units between January 2020 and June 27, 2026.
With this achievement, Bajaj becomes only the third electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country to cross the 8 lakh sales mark, after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Company. The milestone also highlights the growing popularity of the Chetak, which is currently India's second-best-selling electric scooter.
Sales Have Grown Rapidly
The Chetak had a modest start after its launch in 2020, as the EV market was still developing and Bajaj's electric dealership network was relatively small. However, demand has increased significantly over the last few years.
Bajaj sold just over 1,200 Chetak scooters in 2020. Sales crossed 26,000 units in 2022 and grew to more than 75,000 units in 2023. The biggest jump came in 2024, when deliveries crossed the 2 lakh mark. In 2025, Bajaj retailed nearly 2.8 lakh Chetak scooters, helping it become the country's second-largest electric two-wheeler brand.

The strong momentum has continued this year as well. Between January and June 27, 2026, Bajaj has already sold 2,11,356 units, registering a 51 % year-on-year growth. The company has also increased its market share from around 4 % in 2022 to over 22 % in the first half of 2026.
At the current pace, Bajaj is expected to cross 3 lakh sales by mid-August and could even surpass 4 lakh units by the end of this year, setting a new annual sales record for the Chetak.
What Makes the Bajaj Chetak Popular?
One of the biggest reasons behind the Chetak's success is its premium design and practical features. Unlike most electric scooters that use plastic body panels, the Chetak comes with an all-metal body, giving it a solid feel and better build quality. It also features a rounded LED headlamp, smooth bodywork, and a clean design that appeals to a wide range of buyers.

The top-spec Chetak 3501, priced at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom), is the most feature-packed version in the lineup. It gets a touchscreen TFT display with smartphone connectivity, navigation, call and message alerts, music controls, keyless unlock, reverse mode, hill-hold assist, sequential turn indicators, and connected features through the Chetak app, including geo-fencing, theft alerts, ride analytics, and remote immobilisation.
Another highlight is its 35-litre under-seat storage, one of the largest in the segment, making it practical for daily use.
Manufactured in Maharashtra
The Bajaj Chetak is manufactured at the company's Chakan and Akurdi plants in Maharashtra, which together have an annual production capacity of 4.8 lakh units. These facilities also manufacture electric scooters for the shared mobility company Yulu.
