India’s electric scooter market just saw a 22% drop in April 2026 compared to March.
Sounds like a slowdown? Not quite. Because while the overall market corrected, one major player actually grew by 20%.
April 2026 EV 2W Sales: What Happened?
After a record-breaking March, April brought a cooldown phase in electric two-wheeler sales. Here’s how the top brands performed:
TVS Motors - 37,827 units
Bajaj Chetak - 32, 883 units
Ather Energy - 27,024 units
Hero Vida - 15,230 units
Ola Electric - 12, 166 units
Ampere - 6,884 units
River - 3,198 units
Even with this dip, April still ranks among the strongest month for EV adoptions in India.

But, why did the two-wheeler EV Sales fall in April?
1. March was unusually high: March has always seen spike due to the financial year-end purchases, lucrative deals and the rush to grab the benefits of subsidies.
So, April's dip is more of a normal correction which the industry sees.
2. Subsidy & policy timings: Many buyers either advanced their purchases to march or delayed decisions in April. Creating a short-term demand gap.
3. Production & Inventory reset: Automakers typically push for maximum deliveries in March and slow down the dispatches in April. This act as a pause and reset for the industry and not really a demand constrain.
Ola Electric defies the trend and made a record 20% growth, despite a 22% degrowth in the overall sales.
Since, Ola had better availability of scooters and bikes, making stronger push in smaller cities, deployed a competitive pricing strategy in April and all of this backed by improved delivery timelines.
This highlights how important the brand execution game is in today's time.
TVS is clearly dominating on volumes.
Bajaj Chetak is gaining strong traction, even more with the recent updates to their range.
Ather continues to lead in performance.
Ola is staging a comeback, all led by the recent lucrative deals across the range.
This market is now entering the high-competition phase, specially when we look at the brands like Ampere, River for scooter and how aggressive Ultraviolette and Oben have gone with their recent strategy change and expanding network.
The bigger picture suggest that the EV adoption is still rising, fuel prices remain unpredictable, and the government is pushing for the incentives and policies.
As the market matures, growth will now depends on execution, pricing, and reach - not just the demand.
