The highly anticipated launched is finally here, Tata Curvv SUV Coupe EV has made its way to the Indian market, with prices starting from Rs. 17.49 lakh (introductory ex-showroom pan-India). The Curvv EV is a contemporary SUV that blends exhilarating performance, sophisticated technology and unparallel safety, promising an immersive experience. Talking about the EV, Shailesh Chandra (Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.) said that the Curvv EV is Tata's innovative product that will further push boundaries and set a new benchmark in the India automotive industry. He also talked about how Tata has systematically addressed each of the barriers to EV adoption in India, over the past 5 years, with the success of their wide EV portfolio.
Tata Curvv EV is Tata's offering in the mid-SUV segment. Curvv EV's launch claims to address all primary expectation of EV buyers- driving range, charging infra access, charging speed, price of EVs. The EV is offering the largest battery packs in its segment- 55 kWh & 45 kWh, and provides an ARAI-rated claimed range of up to 585 kms. It is also claimed that with the Curvv EV you can expect to get a 150 km top-up in just 15 minutes! Tata Motors has also now got you covered with a real-time Charge Point Aggregator App, which shows the live availability of chargers and enables navigation to the chargers as well (iRa connected car tech). Let us now dive into the details of the Tata Curvv EV.
The Design Story (Exterior and Interiors)
Up front, the Tata Curvv EV resembles the built of the Nexon. With LED DRLs and headlights, the front also comes equipped with the charging port for the vehicle, which is protected by a smart flap (electrically operated).
The first thing to catch the eye on the side profile would be the flush-fitting door handles, which provide a very premium look to the EV. From the back, the car gives a very sleek look with the inverted L-shaped LED taillights, and the sloping roof justifies the coupe styling. There's also gesture-controlled motorised tailgate. The Curvv EV will be available in a total of five monotone shades: Pristine White, Flame Red, Empowered Oxide, Pure Grey, and Virtual Sunrise.
Inside, the first thing that impresses the eye is definitely the expansive panoramic sunroof.
Moving to the dashboard, we have a digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, and customisable mood lights. The interior aesthetics are pretty much alike the Nexon EV, so there are not a lot of efforts put on that end. There's automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, 6-way powered driver seat and ventilated front seats. Arcade.ev will allow streaming OTT platforms, and play games on the touchscreen.
The EV comes with a spacious cabin and storage. With maximum boot-utilization, it provides a 500 ltrs. boot-space.
Performance & Safety
The Curvv EV is built on the Acti.ev architecture platform. The reinforced body structure makes it BNCAP 5-star capable. The Curvv EV comes with 2 battery pack options- 55 kWh (8% higher density), and 45 kWh. The ARAI claimed ranges for the two are- 585 kms for the 55 kWh variant, and 502 kms for the 45 kWh variant. An impressive acceleration of 8.6 seconds (0-100 kmph) can be experienced, with the vehicle claiming a top speed of 160 kmph. A 10-80% charge will be possible just under 40 minutes (DC Fast Charger). The vehicle can be charged up to 150 kms in just 15 minutes. The vehicle also get V2L (Vehicle to Load), and V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle charging) functionalities.
With dual-tone alloys, the Curvv EV comes equipped with 18-inch aerodynamically designed alloy wheels. The aero-curtains are one more aspects providing superior aerodynamics to the vehicle. With a powertrain undertray, the Curvv EV provides a ground clearance of 190 mm, and a water wading capacity of 450 mm. Tata claims that the Curvv comes equipped with superior off-roading characteristics.
Something unique in terms of safety would be the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS), to ensure pedestrian safety. The AVAS creates a sound to warn pedestrians, these are sound alerts produced during slow speed in crowded areas, which will be heard until the car has hit a speed of 20 kmph, and then it fades out. Tata has equipped the Curvv EV with Level 2 ADAS, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
Pricing, Bookings, and Rivals
The Tata Curvv EV introductory price starts at just Rs. 17.49 Lakh and goes up to Rs. 21.99 Lakh. The EV is competitively priced, we're surprised to say the least.
Bookings open on the 12th of August'24. In terms of rivalry, we think the Curvv EV will give competition to the MG ZS EV, and the soon to be launched Hyundai Creta EV.
