Exterior Changes: What’s New?

Firstly, the exterior. The new Tata Punch EV has changed drastically when it comes to the design, setting it apart from the old version. The connected LED DRLs are now gone, and the grille below the charging port has been removed as well.

The headlights and fog-lamps remain the same, but the rear sees major changes with the new Punch EV now featuring a connected LED taillight. The sealed-off front gives more EV-like character to the Punch, making it easier to differentiate from the ICE version. The 16-inch alloys remain standard, but have been given a new aero-optimized design. I personally feel the cleaner front-end makes the Punch EV look more mature and aligned with modern electric design language.

These are subtle changes but make the new design a distinct look on the road. The new front fascia also means that the camera for the 360-degree setup is more obvious, but not exactly ugly.

There are new colors as well, like the Fearless Yellow, Bengal Rouge, and Caramel, with contrasting black roof options.

  • Length: 3857 > 3880 mm

This beautiful facelift comes with some of the best upgrades in safety, just as was expected from Tata. It now features:

  • 6 airbags standard
  • ESC / ESP
  • Hill hold assist
  • TPMS
  • i-High Beam Assist

While this SUV is yet to be tested for its safety, the outgoing version was rated 5-star in Bharat NCAP and the new model is expected to receive a similar rating.

New Battery: Better Range, More Power

In most facelifts, updates are largely cosmetic, with minimal changes to the underlying hardware. However, Tata has taken a different route with the Punch.ev. The most significant upgrade comes in the form of revised powertrain options.

The battery capacities have been increased from 25 kWh and 35 kWh to 30 kWh and 40 kWh. As a result, the claimed range has improved to 375 km for the 30 kWh version and 468 km for the 40 kWh variant.

Charging times remain unchanged. With DC fast charging support, the Punch.ev can go from 20% to 80% in just 26 minutes, and a quick 15-minute top-up can add up to 135km of range.

Warranty Changes: Tata’s Best Move

The biggest challenge in adopting EVs has been battery degradation, and Tata’s lifetime battery warranty changes the game.

One of the most striking announcements was the lifetime battery warranty with unlimited kilometres. This directly addresses long-term ownership concerns and battery degradation anxiety.

New Prices: Introduction of BaaS!

The updated model is priced from ₹9.69 lakh, while the innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option allows customers to bring the upfront cost down to ₹6.49 lakh + ₹2.6/km.

Variant-wise Pricing:

  • Smart: ₹9.96 lakh (30 kW)
  • Smart+: ₹10.29 lakh (30 kW) / ₹10.89 lakh (40 kW)

If you are looking for:

  • A sub-₹12 lakh electric SUV
  • Long certified range
  • Fast charging capability
  • Strong safety package
  • Lifetime battery warranty

The Punch EV facelift certainly strengthens its case. With BaaS lowering entry barriers, it could attract a wider urban audience.
