The five best 7-seater electric cars on sale in India right now are the Mahindra XEV 9S (₹19.95 lakh to ₹29.45 lakh), Kia Carens Clavis EV (₹17.99 lakh to ₹25 lakh), BYD eMax 7 (₹26.90 lakh to ₹29.90 lakh), VinFast VF MPV 7 (₹24.49 lakh) and, as the premium pick, the MG M9 (₹69.90 lakh). Four of the five cost under ₹30 lakh ex-showroom, and claimed ranges run from 404 km to 679 km. The XEV 9S leads on range and performance, while the Clavis EV is the value pick.

How We Ranked These Five

We looked at five things: price for what you get, real-world range where road tests exist, third-row space and luggage room, features, and ownership support such as battery warranty and buyback.

One caveat matters here. The MG M9 costs roughly three times as much as the others, so its fifth place is about value per rupee, not quality. If your budget is above ₹60 lakh, it's the only electric 7-seater on this list worth cross-shopping.

1. Mahindra XEV 9S: Best Overall

Mahindra XEV 9S
Mahindra XEV 9S

The XEV 9S is the only SUV-shaped three-row EV in the mass market, and it's the most powerful, longest-range and fastest-charging car here. It's sold only as a 7-seater, with 59, 70 and 79 kWh packs feeding a rear-mounted 380 Nm motor. In road tests, the 79 kWh version returned 477 km of real-world range and sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.54 seconds.

Cabin features are generous: triple 12.3-inch screens, Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front and second-row outboard seats, dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof. The trade-off is third-row space, which road tests found tighter than in the MPVs on this list.

Pros: class-leading range and power, fastest DC charging here, long feature list, a useful frunk. Cons: tighter third row, small boot with all seats up, prices climb quickly above ₹25 lakh.

2. Kia Carens Clavis EV: Best Value

Kia Carens Clavis EV
Kia Carens Clavis EV

The Clavis EV is the most affordable three-row EV in India, and it's the easiest one to live with. It's roomy across all three rows, offers 6-seat and 7-seat layouts, and has the largest boot of the group at 216 litres. Unlike the born-electric XEV 9S and eMax 7, it's built on an ICE-based platform, but that hasn't hurt the cabin.

Two packs are on offer: 42 kWh (135 hp) and 51.4 kWh (171 hp), both with a 255 Nm front motor. The bigger pack managed 364 km in road tests against a claim of 490 km.

The ownership story is strong too. First private owners of units retailed from 1 August 2026 get a 15-year, unlimited-km battery warranty.

Pros: lowest price, biggest boot, long battery warranty, strong feature list for the money. Cons: smallest batteries here, lowest real-world range, the least powerful motor on the list.

3. BYD eMax 7: Best for Seating Flexibility

BYD eMax 7
BYD eMax 7

The eMax 7 is the facelifted successor to the e6 and the only mass-market car here that pairs a 6-seat captain-style layout with a 7-seat option. Two battery packs are offered: 55.4 kWh (163 hp) and 71.8 kWh (204 hp), both with 310 Nm. The cabin is comfortable and well equipped, with a 12.8-inch rotating screen, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic roof, ventilated front seats, two wireless charging pads and Level 2 ADAS.

There are caveats. Second- and third-row passengers sit in a knees-up position, ground clearance is just 170 mm, and the standard AC charger is the slowest of the group.

The Comfort variant was added in mid-2026. One report puts its claimed range at up to 485 km, a figure we couldn't confirm with BYD directly, so treat it as reported.

You can see the full variant list on Evfy's BYD eMax 7 page.

Pros: 6-seat or 7-seat choice, comfortable seats, long equipment list, up to 530 km claimed. Cons: low ground clearance, slow AC charging, the priciest mass-market car on this list.

4. VinFast VF MPV 7: Best for Cabin Space

VinFast VF MPV 7
VinFast VF MPV 7

The VF MPV 7 is the newest car here, launched on 15 April 2026, and it's also the biggest of the four mass-market models. Its 2,840 mm wheelbase is the longest among them, and road tests found the seven-seat cabin spacious and easy to drive thanks to relaxed, gradual power delivery.

It comes in a single variant with a 60.13 kWh battery and a front motor making 204 hp and 280 Nm. VinFast claims 517 km and a 0 to 100 km/h time of under nine seconds.

The ownership package is the real draw: free charging at VinFast chargers until 31 March 2029 and a 75% assured buyback. The catch is features. Road tests noted the absence of ADAS, a sunroof, powered or ventilated seats, ambient lighting and a head-up display, all of which rivals offer.

5. MG M9: Best Premium Pick

MG M9
MG M9

The MG M9 plays in a different league. At ₹69.90 lakh (introductory ex-showroom price at launch), it's an electric alternative to the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire, sold through MG Select showrooms in a single "Presidential Limousine" variant.

A 90 kWh battery powers a front motor producing 245 PS and 350 Nm, with a claimed range of 548 km. The wheelbase is a huge 3,200 mm, and the second row gets two captain seats with 16-way power adjustment, ottoman support, ventilation and massage. You also get power sliding doors, twin sunroofs, a 13-speaker JBL system, rear entertainment screens, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.

It has a five-star rating from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP. Bharat NCAP testing was still pending at launch. MG offers a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for the first owner, but the M9 isn't available with MG's battery subscription plan.

Which One Should You Buy?

  • You want the most range, power and charging speed: the XEV 9S, ideally the 79 kWh pack.
  • You want the lowest price and an easy family car: the Carens Clavis EV, and take the 51.4 kWh pack if you do highway trips.
  • You want a 6-seat captain layout or a bigger battery than Kia offers: the eMax 7, but test its low ground clearance on your roads first.
  • You want the roomiest cabin under ₹25 lakh and value the buyback: the VF MPV 7, if you can live without ADAS and a sunroof.
  • You're chauffeur-driven or want business-class comfort: the MG M9.

Evfy's Take

Most 7-seater comparisons stop at claimed range. We think luggage is the bigger daily compromise, so we added up the boot space you actually get with all three rows in use:

CarBoot, all rows upFrunkCombined
Mahindra XEV 9S150 L150 L300 L
Kia Carens Clavis EV216 L25 L241 L
BYD eMax 7180 LNone180 L
VinFast VF MPV 7126 LNone126 L

Combined figures are Evfy's own addition of the quoted boot and frunk capacities.

The XEV 9S looks weak on boot size alone, but its frunk makes it the best of the four for luggage. A full family trip in any of these cars means folding the third row or using a roof carrier, so factor that in before you buy.

Range tells a similar story. Using road-test figures, the XEV 9S delivered about 70% of its claimed 679 km, and the Clavis EV about 74% of its claimed 490 km (Evfy's own calculation). The percentages are close, but the XEV 9S's real-world 477 km still beats the Clavis EV's claimed 404 km and 490 km figures by a clear margin.

Practical tip: with six or seven people on board, an AC running and a roof carrier fitted, expect range to fall below your road-test numbers. Plan DC charging stops every 250 to 300 km on long trips rather than running to zero.
