On the other hand, manufacturers are finding new ways to make EV ownership more affordable. On such solution is the BaaS (Battery-as-a-service) in which you can pay for the battery as per your use. Tata has recently launched the facelift of their Tiago EV. However, it is now available with the BaaS scheme, and one of the most affordable cars in India with the BaaS scheme. Although it starts at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with the BaaS, it comes down to Rs 4.69 lakh along with Rs 2.6 per km. Moreover, the Tiago EV offers two battery pack options: 19.2kWh and 24kWh, which belt out 226km and 229km respectively in a single charge.

MG Comet is a bit polarising, but it was worth mentioning here. Although it comes at a starting price of Rs 7.63 lakh (ex-showroom), with the BaaS scheme, it comes down to Rs 4.99 lakh plus Rs 3.2 per km. Comet comes with two battery packs: 17.3kWh and 17.4kWh, only with FC variants. These packs offer a claimed range of 230 km in a single charge. Notably, it takes up to 3.5 hours to juice it up to 100% using a 7.4kW fast charger.

The Tata Punch EV starts at Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom), but with the BaaS scheme, it is lower by almost Rs 3.20 lakh. With this, the Punch EV costs Rs 6.49 lakh plus Rs 2.6 per km. Notably, Punch EV is powered by two battery pack options: 30kWh and 40kWh, but the brand has released the BaaS pricing for their Base 30kWh trim. Meanwhile, this battery pack gives out a claimed range of 375km on one charge.

The MG Windsor is available at a starting price of Rs 14.10 lakh (ex- showroom) and goes up to Rs 18.60 lakh (ex-showroom). MG's BaaS scheme is slightly more complicated, as the battery rental charges vary depending on the battery pack selected. The Windsor EV was initially launched with a 38kWh battery, while a larger 52.9kWh pack joined the lineup in May 2025. Buyers opting for the 38kWh version need to pay Rs 3.9 per km as a battery rental fee, whereas the larger 52.9kWh variant attracts a charge of Rs 4.5 per km.

5. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Maruti has launched their first EV, the e-Vitara, which starts at Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 20.01 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top spec. Although with the BaaS scheme, the price comes down to Rs 10.99 lakh plus Rs 3.99 per km. While the top spec is priced at Rs 14.51 lakh, along with Rs 4.39 per km.

6. Kia Carens Clavis EV

Kia has introduced the Baas Scheme for the Carens Clavis EV recently. Under this, it now costs Rs 12.84 lakh along with Rs 3.3 per km, which is Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) along with the battery. Although the brand has yet to reveal the complete BaaS pricing. So far, we only know the base variant and the top trim HTE ER, which costs Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom) with full ownership. However, under BaaS, it comes down to Rs 15.94 lakh plus Rs 3.3 per km.

7. MG ZS EV

MG ZS EV is the oldest and first electric offering from the brand in the list. It was primarily not introduced with the BaaS scheme. With full ownership, it comes at a starting price of Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 20.75 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the BaaS pricing was introduced back in September 2024, which lowered it to Rs 13.99 lakh plus Rs 4.5 per km. While for the top spec, it remains at Rs 15.51 lakh plus Rs 4.5 per km.

8. Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella

Toyota has recently revealed the price of the top spec E3, which costs Rs 23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, under the BaaS, the pricing comes down to Rs 15.25 lakh plus Rs 4.99 per km, which is higher than its sibling e Vitara. Although Toyota has not specified which variant this Baas pricing applies to.
