The buzz around Mahindra’s upcoming EV lineup is real and I got to experience it firsthand at the Mahindra Unlimit Weekend 2025. Held at the iconic Buddh International Circuit (BIC), the event wasn’t just about showcasing cars, but about letting enthusiasts push them to their limits. My highlight of the day? Driving the Mahindra XEV 9e on the same track where Formula 1 Drivers & Moto GP riders once raced.

Setting the Scene at Mahindra Unlimited Weekend

The atmosphere at BIC was electric (pun intended) and hot too. Rows of Mahindra’s BE and XEV EVs lined up, with participants eagerly waiting to test them out. For me, the XEV 9e stood out — a bold SUV coupe that promises performance, practicality, and an insight into Mahindra’s electric future.

Mahindra XEV 9e on Track: First Drive Impressions

The track experience began with three laps designed to test different aspects of the SUV:

Sighting Lap (lap 1): Following the lead car to get comfortable with the XEV 9e and the track layout.
Hot Lap (lap 2): This was the real test. On the back straight, the XEV 9e did 185km/h with ease, showcasing smooth yet rapid acceleration. The steering felt light, direct and confidence-inspiring, though i did notice the steering-mounted buttons were little to close to the edge for comfort.
Cool Down (lap 3): A mix of a half hot lap and a cool-down. The suspension impressed me here, absorbing track bumps gracefully and maintaining stability.
Despite being a large electric SUV, the XEV 9e surprised me with its agility, stability, and overall driving dynamics. Yes, there was some body roll, but on normal roads this would barely be noticeable.

Drag Race: XEV 9e vs BE.06

Next came the drag race - XEV 9e vs BE.06. On paper, the BE.06 had the advantage with its lighter, sportier design. But the XEV 9e held its own brilliantly. Power delivery was quick yet smooth, and most importantly, the SUV remained incredibly stable with no rear-wheel drama. It delivered strong traction and gave me the confidence to push harder.

Slalom Challenge with the XEV 9e

The final test was the slalom activity, designed to evaluate agility and handling. While the tight corners were clearly more suited to the BE.06, the XEV 9e performed admirably. The ABS worked precisely when needed, ensuring I never lost balance or confidence. For a big-bodied SUV coupe, it was surprisingly composed through quick directional changes.

Key Takeaways from the Mahindra XEV 9e Track Experience

After driving for about three laps plus the drag and slalom, here are my first impressions:
Steering: Direct, responsive and light. Great for both Highway and City driving.
Suspension: Comfortable, yet stable. Irons out bumps even on track.
Performance: Effortless acceleration to 185km/h; smooth power delivery.
Handling: Agile for the size; minimal body roll for an SUV Coupe.
Stability: Excellent traction, making launches and high-speed runs confidence-inspiring.

Final Thoughts: Is the Mahindra XEV 9e Fun to Drive?

ABSOLUTELY. The review from my track drive can be summed up in one word thrilling. While I would love to test the sportier, lower-slung Mahindra BE.06 on track, the XEV 9e proved that Mahindra’s electric SUVs aren’t just practical family movers; they can deliver genuine driving excitement.

The Unlimit Weekend at Buddh International Circuit was more than just a showcase, it was a statement of intent. If this is where Mahindra is headed, India’s EV future is going to be fast, fun, and electrifying.
