Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV: Differences

Mahindra XEV 9S:

  • The dominating full-width LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED headlights, fog lights, and illuminated brand logo deliver a futuristic feel.
  • Triple 12.3-inch display screens powered by MAIA software, and 2 BYOD screens for the second row, large openable panoramic sunroof.
  • Audio is handled by a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system producing 1400W. The inclusion of a karaoke-friendly Groove Me mode highlights Mahindra’s focus on entertainment options.
  • Additional features include scheduled HVAC, NFC-based digital key, 5G internet capability, and Smart User Profile recognition, which adapts seat, climate, and infotainment settings based on the driver.
  • Ample cabin space with a 500-liter boot and a 150-liter frunk for extra storage.

Kia Carens Clavis EV:

  • Digital tiger face grille, ICE Cube LED headlamps & fog lamps, connected Star Map LED DRLs and taillamps
  • Dual panoramic displays (24.6-inch total) and 8-speaker Bose audio system
  • Level 2 ADAS with 20 safety features, smart cruise control & lane keep assist, 6 airbags
  • 360° camera with blind spot detection, electronic parking brake with auto hold

Verdict: The XEV 9S feels more fun and cool, but the Kia Carens Clavis EV does not fall short in terms of features. Both have top-notch safety, and the choice comes down to your preference for an SUV or an MUV. (Yes, Carens Clavis EV is an MUV, making it more family-oriented)

Charging Technology

Mahindra XEV 9S:

Mahindra offers 3 options:

  • Regular chargers at 7.2 kW and 11.7 kW
  • DC Fast Charger at 180 kW
  • 20% to 80% in 20 minutes

Kia Carens Clavis EV:

Mahindra offers 2 options:

  • Regular charger at 11 kW
  • DC Fast Charger at 100 kW
  • 20% to 80% in 39 minutes

Verdict: Mahindra’s technology allows for half the charging time when using DC fast chargers. However, Kia has been proven to have the best battery technology, reducing degradation over a decade. Mahindra is mildly unpredictable in this regard, since their technology is still relatively new, but more reliable than other players because they source their batteries from BYD.

Final Verdict

Depending on your needs, both EVs have the capability to fulfill all roles and be a reliable companion for long trips with your family. However, it comes down to the interior design of the cars. The Carens Clavis EV is more family oriented, prioritizing second and third-row comfort. The XEV 9S also has good interior comfort, making for a practical choice when considering the 7-seater segment, however, Mahindra’s sporty-stance and rigid interior makes it a less preferred choice for families.
