Skoda is now actively looking to launch their first electric car in India. Notably, the Czech automaker could launch two new EVs as part of its strategy for India. According to the reports, Skoda is considering the recently unveiled Peaq and Epiq for the Indian markets. By now, you must be wondering, what's in store for India? Without delay, let's get into the details.
Skoda Peaq Under Evaluation for India
One of the strongest contenders for India is the upcoming Peaq electric SUV, which is set to become Skoda's flagship EV globally. Skoda India Brand Director Ashish Gupta has confirmed that the model is under study for the Indian market, with the brand assessing the features and specifications needed to appeal to local buyers.

Skoda does not want to introduce a basic version of the SUV at a premium price. Instead, it aims to bring a well-equipped flagship model that showcases Skoda's latest technology and strengthens its brand image.
Why the Peaq Makes Sense for India
Skoda's international EV portfolio currently includes models such as the Enyaq, Elroq and the upcoming Peaq. Among these, the Peaq appears to be the most suitable candidate for India.
As a premium flagship offering, the Peaq would primarily serve as a brand-building product rather than a volume seller. This could help justify the higher costs associated with importing the vehicle while giving Indian customers a glimpse of Skoda's latest EV technology.
Specifications
Globally, the Peaq will be offered in three variants: 60, 90 and 90x. The SUV will be available with 63 kWh and 91 kWh battery pack options.
The range-topping 90x version will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 299 bhp, while the 60 and 90 variants will use a single rear-mounted motor delivering 286 bhp.

Skoda claims the Peaq can offer a driving range of over 600 km on a full charge. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 % in around 30 minutes, while the SUV is expected to have a top speed of 180 kmph. Both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations will be available.
What Else?
Apart from the Peaq, Skoda is also working on a locally manufactured electric vehicle for India. The brand believes local production will be key to achieving significant sales volumes in the country's EV market.

According to Skoda, imported EVs can help build brand awareness, but competing with established players will require a stronger localisation strategy, including local sourcing and cost optimisation.
Could the Epiq Be the India-Focused EV?
Although Skoda has not officially confirmed the model, the recently unveiled Epiq electric SUV is considered the strongest candidate for local production in India.
Built on Volkswagen Group's MEB+ platform, the Epiq measures 4,171 mm in length, making it well-suited for Indian road conditions.
The Epiq boasts Skoda's latest Modern Solid design language, featuring a Tech-Deck Face front fascia, T-shaped LED daytime running lamps, sleek headlamps and an aerodynamic profile.
Inside, the SUV is expected to offer a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, connected car technology, over-the-air updates, panoramic sunroof and 475 litres of boot space.
If launched in India, the Epiq is expected to compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6 and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
