MG Hector Tomahawk EV Price and Variants

MG has launched the Hector Tomahawk EV in three trims, with the Essence variant available in both five- and seven-seat configurations.

These are introductory prices and apply to limited units, according to Autocar India's launch report.

The most interesting part is that the entry price isn't the whole story.

What is the ₹13.99 lakh BaaS price?

MG is offering the Hector Tomahawk EV under its Battery-as-a-Service programme.

Under BaaS:

• Vehicle price starts at ₹13.99 lakh
• Battery rental is ₹4.90 per km
• MG hasn't disclosed variant-wise BaaS pricing
• The battery rental is separate from the vehicle price

So, don't read ₹13.99 lakh as the complete on-road or battery-included price. It's the vehicle price under the BaaS ownership model.

For someone who drives relatively little, BaaS can make the initial purchase price look attractive. But if you're a high-mileage driver, you should calculate the total cost over several years before choosing between outright ownership and BaaS.

That's one area where buyers shouldn't simply compare the headline prices.

The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a 69.2kWh LFP battery pack.

It powers a single electric motor mounted at the front, producing:

MG claims a 517km MIDC range on a full charge.

The 517km figure is the number buyers should use when comparing the Indian-spec SUV. Earlier pre-launch reports had discussed a possible 530km figure based on overseas specifications, but the final India-spec launch figure is 517km MIDC.

And that's a useful distinction because MIDC and CLTC figures aren't directly comparable.

Charging Time

The Tomahawk EV supports DC fast charging at up to 90kW.

MG claims:

• 30-80%: around 35 minutes with a 90kW DC charger
• 10-100%: around 12.5 hours with a 7.4kW AC charger
• Portable charging is also supported through a 15A socket

The SUV uses a CCS2 charging connection.

For road trips, the 90kW DC capability and 35-minute 30-80% claim matter more than the headline battery size. A large battery is useful, but how quickly you can add meaningful range during a highway stop is what you'll notice in real-world ownership.

V2L and V2V: More Than Just Charging the Car

The Hector Tomahawk EV gets Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functionality.

V2L allows the vehicle to supply power to compatible external appliances and devices.

V2V, meanwhile, allows the Tomahawk EV to provide charge to another electric vehicle.

For EV owners, these features can be genuinely useful — particularly during outdoor trips, camping or emergencies where an external power source isn't readily available.

The Tomahawk is a sizeable SUV.

Boot capacity depends heavily on the seating configuration.

The five-seat version offers 610 litres, while the seven-seater has 192 litres with all three rows in use and 528 litres with the third row folded.

That's worth keeping in mind if you're considering the Tomahawk primarily as a family road-trip SUV. Seven seats sound great on paper, but luggage space becomes much tighter when all three rows are occupied.

Exterior Design

The Hector Tomahawk EV doesn't try to look like a spaceship. Instead, MG has given it a large, upright SUV stance.

Key exterior elements include:

The dashboard gets a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with an 8.8-inch digital driver's display.

The feature list includes:

• Ventilated front seats

MG also offers cabin modes such as Nap, Camp, Energise, Pro Pet, Valet and Quiet.

The gesture controls are an interesting touch. Instead of relying entirely on the touchscreen, certain functions such as the air-conditioning and audio system can be operated through gestures.

Safety and ADAS

Safety isn't being treated as an optional extra on the Tomahawk EV.

Six airbags are standard across all variants, while the SUV also gets a 360-degree camera with transparent-chassis and wheel-view functions.

The Tomahawk EV also gets Level 2 ADAS with 11 functions.

The ADAS package includes features such as:

• You don't mind sacrificing boot space when all three rows are occupied

Choose the 5-seater if:

• You rarely need more than five seats
• You carry luggage frequently
• You want the 610-litre boot
• You prefer a more practical long-distance setup

The five-seat version is available only in the Essence trim at ₹22.99 lakh.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV vs Rivals

The Tomahawk EV enters a segment that's getting increasingly crowded.

Its main three-row rivals include the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV, while the five-seat version also faces competition from models such as the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e.

What makes the Tomahawk particularly interesting isn't just its range.

It's the combination of 7-seat practicality, a 69.2kWh battery, 517km claimed MIDC range, Level 2 ADAS, V2L/V2V and a ₹19.49 lakh introductory starting price.

That's a fairly broad package.

Should You Consider the MG Hector Tomahawk EV?

If you're looking for a large electric family SUV with seven seats, the Tomahawk EV deserves a place on your shortlist.

The last point is especially relevant. Don't choose BaaS simply because ₹13.99 lakh looks cheaper. Calculate your expected annual kilometres first.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV Bookings and Deliveries

Bookings for the Hector Tomahawk EV have opened, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in September 2026.

Bookings can be made online through MG's website or through MG dealerships. Buyers can select the variant, colour, dealership and financing options during the booking process.

Before booking, I'd recommend doing three things:

1. Check the exact BaaS terms with the dealer.
2. Test the third row with your family, especially if you're buying it as a seven-seater.
3. Compare the final on-road price, not just the ₹19.49 lakh headline figure.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Also Launched

MG has also introduced a plug-in hybrid version of the Tomahawk alongside the EV.

The PHEV combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery, with MG claiming more than 115km of electric-only range and over 1,100km of combined range. India Today reports its non-BaaS starting price at ₹25.69 lakh.

That's a separate story in itself, though. For buyers specifically looking for a fully electric SUV, the Hector Tomahawk EV is the model to focus on.

EVFY's Take

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is interesting because MG hasn't tried to win the segment with just one headline number.

Instead, it combines range, space, technology and flexible ownership.

The ₹19.49 lakh starting price makes the seven-seat version particularly worth looking at, while the ₹13.99 lakh BaaS price gives buyers another way to approach the upfront cost — provided the per-kilometre battery rental works for their driving pattern.

And this is where the Tomahawk needs to be judged in the real world.

517km on paper is useful. But the bigger question is how the SUV performs with a full family, luggage, highway speeds and real charging stops.
