Yes, Diwali is a good time to buy an electric car in India, but only for some buyers. It works if you need a car within weeks, want Dhanteras (6 November 2026) delivery, or are targeting outgoing stock such as the pre-SeriesX Tata Curvv EV (up to ₹3.35 lakh off) or the older Tiago EV and Punch EV (up to ₹1.45 lakh off). The case is weaker for current-generation models, where reported October offers equal roughly 1.5% to 4.2% of the entry price (Evfy's arithmetic). Waiting makes sense if you want a car that has not launched yet.
Quick Verdict: Who Should Buy at Diwali and Who Should Wait
| Your situation | Verdict | Why |
| You need a car within weeks and want Dhanteras delivery | Buy now | The delivery slot is the real deadline, not the discount |
| You want a pre-facelift Tiago EV or Punch EV, or a pre-SeriesX Curvv EV, and accept the older pack | Buy now | The biggest reported discounts sit on outgoing stock that can sell out |
| You already own a Tata and qualify for the loyalty bonus (Harrier EV) | Buy now | Up to ₹2.75 lakh is reported, about 12.6% of the entry price |
| You want a current-generation Nexon EV, Syros EV or similar | No rush | Reported offers are small, so the festive date adds little |
| You want a car that has not launched (Safari EV, Hyundai HE1i, Honda 0 Alpha) | Wait | None of the three has a confirmed price, and the Safari EV has no confirmed date |
| You have no urgent need and can take delivery after Diwali | Wait for November sheets | Offers are published month by month and November figures are not out yet |
Diwali 2026 Dates and the Delivery Clock
Dhanteras falls on Friday, 6 November 2026, Choti Diwali on 7 November, Diwali and Lakshmi Puja on Sunday, 8 November and Govardhan Puja on 9 November. From 28 October, Dhanteras is nine days away.
Showrooms will be busy. India registered 35,995 electric cars in September 2026, up 94% from 18,520 a year earlier, so festive demand starts from a high base. On Dhanteras 2024, reports showed JSW MG Motor delivering more than 100 EVs in a single day in Delhi-NCR, which is why delivery slots fill early.

Why Diwali Discounts Are Mostly Stock-Clearing Offers
Three patterns in the reported figures point the same way.
First, the largest offers sit on older stock. The ₹3.35 lakh on the Curvv EV applies to variants sold before the May 2026 SeriesX update. The ₹1.45 lakh on the Tiago EV and Punch EV applies to pre-facelift and outgoing 25 and 35 kWh stock. The current SeriesX Curvv EV gets only ₹65,000.
Second, Tata's top figures have not moved since July. Reports put the Curvv EV maximum at ₹3.35 lakh and the Harrier EV at ₹2.75 lakh in July and August, and the same figures appear for October. Diwali did not create these numbers.
Third, current-generation cars get small offers. The Syros EV gets ₹20,000 and the Nexon EV ₹45,000. The Clavis EV has no cash discount at all, only exchange, loyalty, scrappage and corporate benefits.

Worked Example: What a Harrier EV Buyer Really Saves
The Harrier EV's reported ₹2.75 lakh has three parts: ₹1 lakh intervention support, up to ₹75,000 exchange or scrappage, and up to ₹1 lakh loyalty bonus. Exchange and scrappage are alternatives, so you take one.
| Buyer | Reported benefit | Effective ex-showroom price on the ₹21.79 lakh entry variant |
| Existing Tata owner, all components apply | ₹2.75 lakh | About ₹19.04 lakh |
| New to Tata, scrappage only | About ₹1.75 lakh | About ₹20.04 lakh |
This is Evfy's arithmetic on reported figures. It excludes road tax, insurance and other charges, and the exact amounts depend on variant, city and eligibility. The gap between the two buyers is ₹1 lakh, so the same car can mean two very different Diwali deals.
Pros and Cons of Buying at Diwali
Pros
- Widest stock choice of the year, with makers pushing volumes in the festive window
- Real discounts on outgoing stock, up to ₹3.35 lakh on the older Curvv EV
- Auspicious delivery on Dhanteras or Diwali, which matters to many families
- Bundled extras such as free home chargers on some models (the e Vitara offer includes one)
Cons
- Crowded showrooms and delivery slots that fill early
- Small offers on current-generation cars, often under 4% of the entry price
- Older stock traps, such as a discounted car with a battery pack or model year you would not choose at full price
- Offer sheets change by city, stock and eligibility
What Waiting Can Cost and What It Can Gain
What waiting can cost. Tata's reported October offers run to 31 October. Tata also raised prices on 1 July and 1 September 2026. In earlier years, several makers, including Tata and MG, announced January price increases of up to 3%. As of 28 October we found no January 2027 increase announced, so treat this as a pattern, not a forecast. Outgoing stock can also sell out before November.
What waiting can gain. November offer sheets are not public yet. New launches may add competition. None of the cars below has an official price.
| Model | Status | Price |
| Tata Safari EV | Reported for the festive season or later; no company-confirmed date | Estimates of about ₹22.5 lakh to ₹30 lakh (reports) |
| Hyundai HE1i (codename) | Hyundai India's CEO has said it will debut by end-2026 | Not announced |
| Honda 0 Alpha | Debut on 2 December 2026; price and deliveries reported for early 2027 | Not announced |
| Maruti YMC (codename) | Reported for late 2026 or 2027; not confirmed by Maruti | One report suggests about ₹22 lakh (single source) |
Model-by-Model Guide for Cars Under ₹30 Lakh
| Car | Diwali verdict | Reason |
| Tata Tiago EV | Buy if you accept older stock | Up to ₹1.45 lakh off pre-facelift cars; the redesigned car is not in the October schedule |
| Tata Punch EV | Buy if you accept the older pack | Up to ₹1.45 lakh off 25 and 35 kWh stock; compare with the new 40 kWh car |
| Tata Nexon EV | No rush | Up to ₹45,000, Tata's smallest EV offer this month |
| Kia Syros EV | No rush | Only ₹20,000 scrappage; the case rests on the car, not the festival |
| MG Windsor EV | Get the sheet in writing | We could not verify an October offer |
| Tata Curvv EV | Buy only after comparing both versions | Older 55 kWh stock at up to ₹3.35 lakh off versus SeriesX at ₹65,000 |
| Kia Carens Clavis EV | Reasonable | Cheapest three-row EV, up to ₹75,000 in benefits, no cash discount |
| Tata Sierra EV | No Diwali reason | Not in Tata's October EV offer schedule |
| Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq | Get the sheet in writing | We could not verify an offer |
| Tata Harrier EV | Buy if you qualify for loyalty | Up to ₹2.75 lakh, about 8.0% to 12.6% of entry price |
Five Checks Before You Book
- Is the car outgoing stock? Confirm the battery pack, variant and model year on the exact car quoted. The older Curvv stock can include the 45 kWh car that Tata has since dropped.
- Which offer components do you qualify for? Ask for the Green Bonus, intervention offer, exchange or scrappage, loyalty and corporate benefits one by one.
- Does the on-road price beat the alternative? Compare quotes in your state, because road tax changes the total. Karnataka now charges four-wheelers a tiered 5%, 8% or 10%, while Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu charge 0% (as covered in our 15 October picks post).
- Can you get a delivery date in writing? If you want Dhanteras delivery, get the allocation date confirmed now.
- Is the offer tied to booking, invoice or registration date? This decides whether an October offer survives a November delivery.
Evfy's Take
1. The better question is whether the car is outgoing stock. The biggest reported offers belong to pre-update Tata cars, and Tata's maxima have held since July. In our assessment, a festive date adds little on its own. Stock age decides the discount.
2. For current-generation cars, Diwali is a convenience, not a bargain. At 1.5% to 4.2% of the entry price, these offers will not change a decision between two cars. Choose the car first, then use the offer sheet as a tiebreaker.
3. The delivery slot is the scarcest thing this week. With Dhanteras nine days away, a missed allocation costs more than a small difference in discount. Ask for the date in writing before negotiating the rupees.
4. The ownership route can move your price more than the offer. Battery-as-a-Service changes the upfront price by lakhs, though it is a financing choice, not a discount. Price it against your own kilometres.
