Tata Motors has released the first official teaser of the production-spec Sierra EV, confirming its debut on June 30. The upcoming electric SUV will become the brand's seventh EV in India and is set to play a key role in Tata's growing electric vehicle portfolio.

First showcased as a concept in 2020, the Sierra EV has been one of Tata's most anticipated cars. Over the years, the concept has steadily evolved into a production-ready model with the Sierra ICE launched a while back. However, it retains several design cues inspired by the iconic Sierra nameplate.

EV Specific Design Elements

The Sierra EV is expected to share most of its styling elements with the recently revealed ICE-powered Sierra. The SUV will feature an upright stance, connected LED lighting elements, blacked-out pillars and the signature wraparound rear glass area that pays homage to the original Sierra.

However, the electric version will get a few unique touches to differentiate itself. These include a closed-off front fascia in place of a conventional grille and EV-specific alloy wheel designs. Higher variants could ride on 19-inch alloy wheels.

Interiors

Inside, the Sierra EV is likely to mirror the ICE model's premium cabin layout. Top variants are expected to feature a triple-screen setup comprising a digital driver's display, central infotainment touchscreen and a dedicated passenger display.

Other expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, a premium audio system, wireless charging and a head-up display. Lower trims may come with a dual-screen setup. All in all, it might offer the same set of features as its ICE counterparts, except for a few EV-specific features, such as V2V or V2L tech.

Powertrain

The Sierra EV is expected to borrow its electric powertrain from the flagship Harrier EV. It could be offered with 65kWh and 75kWh battery pack options and will likely be based on Tata's Acti.ev+ architecture.

Tata has already confirmed that the Sierra EV will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The AWD setup is expected to be reserved for the larger 75kWh battery variant. Since the Sierra is slightly smaller and lighter than the Harrier EV, it could potentially deliver a higher driving range using the same battery packs.

Pricing And Rivals

Positioned between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV, the Sierra EV will target buyers looking for a premium midsize electric SUV. Prices are expected to start around Rs 18 lakh and go up to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Once launched, the Sierra EV will compete with rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, MG Windsor and the Maruti e Vitara.
