Ultraviolette Launches UV Battery Flex BaaS Plan — X-47 Now Starts at ₹1.49 Lakh

Electric performance motorcycle maker Ultraviolette has officially introduced its UV Battery Flex programme, a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model designed to make its electric motorcycles more accessible to buyers in India.

The new plan separates the battery cost from the motorcycle purchase, allowing customers to pay a lower upfront price for the vehicle while financing the battery through a monthly subscription.

Ultraviolette Introduces Battery-as-a-Service Ownership Model

The initiative has been launched in partnership with Ecofy, a green-focused NBFC that specializes in financing climate-positive technologies.

From my perspective, this move could significantly change how premium electric motorcycles are purchased in India. Batteries account for a large chunk of EV costs, and separating them from the vehicle price makes ownership far more approachable.

  • Battery subscription: starting at ₹2.5 per km
  • Minimum monthly payment: ₹2,499

This model reduces the upfront cost by around 40%, making the X-47 more competitive with similarly priced petrol motorcycles.

Customers will purchase the motorcycle chassis separately, while the battery will be financed through a monthly plan.

Key details:

  • New starting price: ₹1.99 lakh (without battery)

Battery Subscription and Ownership Details

With Battery Flex, the battery is financed through a monthly subscription that depends on usage.

Important details include:

  • Minimum monthly payment: ₹2,499
  • Usage-based billing: ₹2.5/km (X-47) and ₹2.6/km (F77)
  • Battery warranty: 5 years or 1,00,000 km
  • Battery ownership: transferred to the rider after loan completion

If a rider reaches 1,00,000 km before the loan tenure ends, the battery is considered fully paid and ownership is transferred.

This structure ensures riders get continuous warranty protection during the loan period, which is reassuring given the importance of battery health in EVs.

Potential Cost Savings Compared to Petrol Bikes

Ultraviolette claims that riders could save around ₹3,500 per month compared to a similarly powered petrol motorcycle.

Over five years, this could translate to nearly ₹2 lakh in savings thanks to lower running and maintenance costs.

Given current fuel prices, that estimate actually sounds quite realistic for daily riders.

What Happens After the Loan Period?

Once the battery loan tenure is completed:

  • Battery ownership transfers to the rider at no additional cost.
  • Separate No Objection Certificates (NOCs) will be issued for the bike and battery after loan closure.

However, during the loan tenure:

  • Both bike EMI and battery EMI must be paid regularly.
  • A default on either will be treated as a payment default.

Also, under RTO rules, the motorcycle and battery are treated as a single unit, meaning the RC will show hypothecation for the entire vehicle.

Battery Flex Could Accelerate EV Adoption

Ultraviolette’s CEO Narayan Subramaniam highlighted that the new pricing structure significantly improves affordability.

By lowering the entry cost to around ₹1.5 lakh, the company believes riders can now access performance electric motorcycles with technology that outperforms many ICE models.

Personally, I think Battery-as-a-Service could become a major trend in India’s EV market. As battery technology evolves quickly, flexible ownership models like this can reduce financial risk for buyers while accelerating EV adoption.
