Upcoming Electric Cars in India: What to Expect in 2026
India’s electric vehicle market is gaining strong momentum as demand continues to rise and manufacturers expand their EV line-ups. Popular models like the Tata Tiago EV and MG Windsor EV have already shown encouraging sales, proving that Indian buyers are increasingly open to electric mobility. Building on this growth, several major carmakers are preparing to introduce new electric vehicles in 2026, offering more choices across different segments and price points.
Tata Sierra EV

The iconic Tata Sierra nameplate has already returned to India with an ICE version priced at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Tata Motors is now gearing up to launch the Tata Sierra EV in the first half of 2026. The electric SUV will be based on Tata’s Acti.EV+ platform and will be offered with 55kWh and 65kWh battery packs. A key highlight is the availability of dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) from launch. Design-wise, the Sierra EV will feature unique styling changes, especially at the front, along with a modern, tech-focused cabin.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

Toyota is preparing a badge-engineered electric SUV based on the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which will be called the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. The model will share the same platform and battery options as Maruti’s EV, with similar range figures. It was first showcased as a concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. This EV will play an important role in Toyota’s strategy to strengthen its electric presence in the Indian market.
VinFast Limo Green and VF3

Vietnamese automaker VinFast is steadily expanding its India plans. The company has confirmed that the VinFast Limo Green, a seven-seater electric MPV, will launch in February 2026. Positioned as a spacious and practical EV, it will cater to both family buyers and fleet operators, following the earlier launches of the VF6 and VF7 SUVs.

Alongside this, VinFast is also planning to introduce the VF3 electric car in the first half of 2026. This compact EV will rival the MG Comet EV and feature SUV-inspired styling with 191 mm ground clearance. It will be powered by an 18.6kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 200 km and 43.5 hp output. VinFast is also considering a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option for Indian customers.
Hyundai Inster-based EV

Hyundai is working on a compact electric SUV that will compete directly with the Tata Punch EV. Codenamed HE1i, the model is expected to launch by late 2026 and will be manufactured in Tamil Nadu using locally sourced Exide batteries. Based on the global Hyundai Inster EV, it will offer 42kWh and 49kWh battery options with 97 hp and 115 hp motors. The claimed WLTP range will be 300 km and 355 km, respectively. Expected features include dual 10.25-inch screens, Level 2 ADAS, automatic climate control, and a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is expected to be one of the first EV launches of 2026, with sales likely to begin in January. The electric SUV will use LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries and will be offered with two options. The 49kWh battery will be paired with a single-motor setup and offer up to 450 km of range, while the larger 61kWh battery will deliver up to 500+ km (WLTP) and will be available in FWD and AWD configurations. However, Maruti Suzuki has not yet confirmed whether the AWD variant will be launched in India.
With these upcoming launches, 2026 is shaping up to be a crucial year for India’s electric vehicle market, bringing more variety, better technology, and wider adoption of clean mobility solutions.
