More than just a single model, this platform marks a significant shift for Ather, enabling the brand to diversify beyond its existing 450 and Rizta lineups. The EL platform is modular, scalable, and cost-optimized, designed to support a range of scooters with different use cases — from sporty commuters to family-friendly rides. The company confirmed that its first scooter from this platform will be launched around the festive season of 2025 , positioning Ather for stronger growth in India’s competitive EV market.EL Platform: A Data-Driven ArchitectureAther claims the new EL platform has been developed using insights from over 26 lakh kilometers of real-world riding data . Central to this design is a unibody steel chassis , which not only enhances durability but also makes production more efficient. The company says this design will allow scooters to be assembled 15 percent faster than before.Maintenance has also been reimagined. With simpler components and reduced brake wear, service intervals are now doubled to 10,000 km , and Ather claims periodic servicing can be completed in nearly half the time. This aligns with Ather’s focus on making EV ownership more affordable and hassle-free.Another notable change is the swingarm-mounted motor , replacing the older belt-driven setup. This is paired with a front disc brake , monoshock suspension , and a center stand for better practicality.Manufacturing in Aurangabad – Ather Factory 3.0Production of scooters based on the EL platform will happen at Ather’s upcoming Factory 3.0 in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) . This new facility will play a crucial role in scaling up Ather’s operations and accelerating time-to-market for its next generation of products.By localizing production and using an optimized architecture, Ather aims to keep costs competitive while delivering higher volumes to meet rising EV demand in India.EL01 Concept and Future Product DirectionsWhile the EL01 was the centerpiece at Community Day, Ather has not confirmed whether the first production scooter will carry this name. Instead, the company emphasized the platform’s versatility by showcasing three design directions :Maxi-Style Scooter – Featuring 14-inch wheels and a large 5kWh battery , ideal for riders seeking longer range and highway comfort.Sporty Scooter – Equipped with 12-inch wheels, a sharper subframe, and a compact 2kWh battery , targeting performance-oriented users.Family Scooter – Built with a wider seat, longer wheelbase, plush suspension, and even support for advanced rider assistance systems (ARAS) , tailored for comfort and practicality. This flexibility ensures Ather can target multiple market segments with a single architecture — commuters, enthusiasts, and family users alike.New Safety and Hardware FeaturesThe EL platform also debuts several first-in-class features:Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS): Designed to shorten stopping distances and reduce rear-wheel lockups. While not a full replacement for ABS, AEBS can work alongside it in future models.Charge Drive Controller: Ather has integrated the onboard charger with the motor controller, removing the need for bulky portable chargers. This not only simplifies charging but also frees up valuable boot space, improving daily convenience. What to Expect NextThe EL01 concept is just the beginning of a new chapter for Ather. With its modular EL platform, the company is preparing to launch multiple scooters catering to different rider profiles. The first production-ready scooter from this architecture is expected to break cover around the festive season of 2025 .With Factory 3.0 in Aurangabad ramping up, Ather is gearing for faster scaling and broader reach. By combining improved manufacturing efficiency, enhanced durability, longer service intervals, and innovative safety systems, Ather aims to set new benchmarks in India’s electric scooter segment.Expected Pricing and TimelineAther hinted that the EL 01 could enter production as early as next year , with a starting price slightly under ₹1 lakh .The coming year will be pivotal for Ather, as it transitions from niche premium products to a diverse EV lineup built on a robust, future-ready platform.
