Ather Energy Rolls Out Infinite Cruise on 450X

Ather Energy has officially introduced Infinite Cruise on its Ather 450X electric scooters, expanding the availability of its software-led riding features across the 450 platform. The feature, which debuted on the Ather 450 Apex in August 2025, is now being rolled out to 450X models through over-the-air (OTA) software updates, making it a standard feature for eligible scooters.

Designed for Indian Urban Riding

Unlike conventional cruise control systems that are optimized for highways and higher speeds, Infinite Cruise has been engineered specifically for Indian city conditions. Ather notes that most urban scooter usage happens below 30 kmph, often involving dense traffic, uneven roads, frequent braking, and variable speeds. Infinite Cruise addresses these challenges by focusing on adaptability rather than fixed-speed cruising.

How Infinite Cruise Works

Traditional cruise control systems disengage when the rider brakes or accelerates. In contrast, Infinite Cruise remains persistently active, dynamically recalibrating to the rider’s new speed after any manual input. This eliminates the need for repeated re-engagement and aims to reduce throttle effort and rider fatigue, especially in stop-and-go traffic.

The system operates across a speed range of 10 to 90 kmph and is built around three core functions.

Three Key Features of Infinite Cruise

  1. CityCruise: Automatically adapts to changing traffic speeds, allowing riders to maintain smoother progress in congested urban environments.
  2. Hill Control: Maintains consistent speed on slopes by compensating for load changes and using regenerative braking via Ather’s Magic Braking Algorithm.
  3. Crawl Control: Enables stable low-speed riding on rough or uneven surfaces, supported by Multimode Traction Control for better grip on wet or slippery roads.

OTA Rollout and Compatibility

Ather Energy confirmed that around 44,000 Ather 450X customers will receive Infinite Cruise via OTA updates. Eligibility applies to scooters purchased from January 1, 2025 onwards. According to the company, this level of backward compatibility is the result of long-term hardware and platform planning during the development of the 2025 450 series.

Software-Driven EV Strategy

The rollout of Infinite Cruise reinforces Ather’s strategy of positioning its scooters as continuously evolving products. Software features such as Multimode Traction Control, Magic Twist, and now Infinite Cruise play a central role in extending vehicle functionality beyond the point of purchase, strengthening Ather’s software-first EV approach.
