Quick HighlightsSimple Energy becomes India’s first OEM to produce heavy rare earth-free motors for EVs.Motors developed at its 2,00,000 sq. ft Hosur facility using in-house R&D and patented architecture.New technology offers performance comparable to traditional rare earth-based motors.Company eyes IPO in FY 2027 to raise $350 million for expansion and innovation.Simple Energy Achieves Breakthrough With Heavy Rare Earth-Free EV MotorsBengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Simple Energy has marked a major milestone in India’s clean mobility sector. On September 16, 2025, the company announced that it has become the country’s first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to commercially produce heavy rare earth-free motors for electric vehicles . This breakthrough not only strengthens the domestic EV supply chain but also reduces dependence on imported critical materials. The motors are being manufactured at Simple Energy’s 2,00,000-square-foot production facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu , where the company has achieved an impressive 95% localization rate across its operations.Tackling Global Supply Chain ChallengesTraditionally, heavy rare earth elements —sourced primarily from a handful of countries—have been central to EV motor production due to their torque density and compactness. However, supply chain disruptions and rising costs have forced manufacturers worldwide to search for sustainable alternatives.Simple Energy’s motor technology replaces heavy rare earth magnets with alternative compounds while integrating proprietary algorithms to manage heat dissipation and torque delivery. According to the company, the motors match the performance of conventional systems that rely on heavy rare earth elements.Built on In-House R&D and PatentsThe innovation is the result of extensive in-house research and development by Simple Energy’s engineering team. The company also holds patents for its motor architecture , underscoring its commitment to developing indigenous solutions for India’s growing EV industry.Founded in 2019 by Suhas Rajkumar and Shreshth Mishra , Simple Energy has positioned itself as a challenger in India’s two-wheeler EV segment. Its product lineup includes:Simple Energy ONE Gen 1.5 – Claimed range of 248 kilometers.Simple Energy OneS – Claimed range of 181 kilometers.Expansion, Retail Presence, and Future IPOSimple Energy currently operates 46 showrooms across India and plans to scale aggressively. By the end of fiscal year 2025 , the company aims to open 150 new stores and 200 service centers to expand its customer reach and strengthen after-sales support. The company has raised over $41 million in funding from individual investors and family offices. Looking ahead, Simple Energy is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in FY 2027 , targeting $350 million to fund product development, enhance manufacturing capacity, and increase market penetration.Aligning With India’s EV PoliciesThe Indian government has been actively pushing for domestic manufacturing in the EV space through policies such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) program. Simple Energy’s step toward eliminating heavy rare earth dependency perfectly aligns with these national objectives, reducing reliance on imported critical materials and fostering self-reliance.A New Chapter for India’s EV IndustryWith this move, Simple Energy has set a precedent for other EV manufacturers in India and abroad. By focusing on innovation, localization, and sustainability, the company is not only addressing industry-wide supply chain concerns but also reinforcing India’s position as a global player in clean mobility.
