Delhi Govt to Release New EV Policy 2026 as Pollution WorsensAs Delhi continues to grapple with severe air pollution, the Delhi government is set to introduce its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026 by the first week of January. The policy aims to accelerate the shift from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric mobility, while also strengthening enforcement against polluting vehicles and improving public transport.Major Subsidies Planned for EV BuyersAccording to sources, the upcoming EV policy is expected to offer significant financial relief to middle-class consumers . The government plans to introduce attractive incentives to encourage residents to switch to electric vehicles.Under the draft proposal, electric two-wheelers could receive subsidies ranging between ₹35,000 and ₹40,000 for individuals replacing petrol-powered vehicles with electric ones. This move is expected to boost EV adoption among daily commuters.Commercial Three-Wheelers to Get Strong IncentivesThe policy also places strong emphasis on commercial mobility. Commercial three-wheelers will receive substantial subsidies to transition to electric power, helping reduce emissions from last-mile transport and freight movement. In addition, the Delhi government will extend subsidies to private car owners switching from petrol or diesel vehicles priced up to ₹20 lakh to electric cars , marking a major push toward cleaner personal mobility.Talks with Ola and Uber on Private Bus OperationsIn a parallel effort to reduce congestion and pollution, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held discussions with ride-hailing platforms Ola and Uber on the possibility of operating private buses across the Delhi-NCR region. The proposal aims to reduce the number of private cars and taxis entering Delhi daily, as a large portion of the workforce commutes from NCR cities using personal vehicles. No Leniency on Pollution Under Control (PUC) ViolationsTaking a strict stand on vehicular pollution, the Chief Minister announced that vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will face a fine of ₹10,000 with no exemptions .Currently, many violators manage to reduce penalties to as little as ₹100 through Lok Adalats. The government now plans to end all waivers and ensure challans are enforced strictly , even if legal action is required.CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the objective is not revenue collection, but ensuring clean air for Delhi’s citizens .New Guidelines Soon for E-RickshawsUnregulated e-rickshaws have been identified as a key contributor to traffic congestion and increased emissions. To tackle this, the government will soon introduce new e-rickshaw guidelines .These rules will define designated operating areas and routes for e-rickshaws, aiming to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and indirectly reduce pollution caused by idling vehicles.DTC Bus Routes to Be Scientifically RationalizedTo strengthen public transport, the government has also decided to rationalize Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus routes . The Chief Minister stated that DTC buses should have a presence in every locality and street.Scientific route planning and improved last-mile connectivity are expected to encourage more residents to use buses instead of private vehicles, further supporting Delhi’s pollution control and sustainability goals. With the upcoming EV Policy 2026 and stricter enforcement measures, the Delhi government is signaling a comprehensive approach to tackling air pollution while promoting cleaner and more efficient urban mobility.
