In a significant leap towards sustainable transportation, Israeli tech company Electreon Wireless has launched Norway’s first wireless charging road, a groundbreaking infrastructure designed to charge electric vehicles (EVs) as they drive. The Technology: How It Works
The wireless charging system by Electreon employs advanced technology with specialized copper coils embedded just beneath the road surface. These coils generate an electromagnetic field that wirelessly transfers energy to vehicles equipped with compatible receivers. The pilot installation spans a 100-meter stretch in Trondheim, set for a year-long evaluation to gather vital data on performance and efficiency.
Diverse Fleet for Comprehensive Testing
The trial phase will see the participation of four electric buses, showcasing the project’s international scope. Three buses are produced by the renowned Chinese company- Yutong, and one by another respected Chinese manufacturer- Higer. This variety ensures a thorough assessment of the charging system’s compatibility across different vehicle models.

Objectives and Impact
The primary aim of this pilot is to determine if the wireless charging technology can exclusively power electric buses, potentially eliminating the need for charging stops and enabling continuous operation.
