India’s EV Market Hits Record 2.34 Lakh Registrations in October 2025

India’s electric vehicle (EV) market had a blockbuster festive month in October 2025, achieving an unprecedented milestone of 2.34 lakh total EV registrations—the highest monthly figure to date. This represents a 5% year-on-year (YoY) growth and a 27% month-on-month (MoM) surge, underscoring the industry’s strong momentum despite production constraints and regulatory challenges.

EV two-wheelers continued to dominate the volume game, surpassing the one-million-unit mark for 2025 with two months still remaining. The industry’s resilience is notable given concerns over magnet shortages impacting EV motor production and the GST rate cut on ICE vehicles, which temporarily narrowed the cost gap between conventional and electric cars.

Passenger EV Sales Surge Amid Price Parity with ICE Vehicles

The electric passenger vehicle (e-PV) segment saw a strong uptick, recording 17,785 units in October 2025, up from 11,428 units in October 2024 and 16,346 units in September 2025. The improved price parity between EVs and ICE models has contributed significantly to this demand surge.

Tata Motors Retains Market Leadership

Tata Motors continued to dominate the EV landscape with 7,116 units sold, a 7.69% increase YoY. The company now holds a 40% market share in the e-PV segment.

Models such as the Harrier EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV have sustained Tata’s leadership, while the Tiago and Tigor EVs continue to attract mass-market buyers. However, competition is intensifying as JSW MG Motor and Mahindra ramp up their offerings with new product launches and capacity expansions.

JSW MG Motor India Strengthens Position with Premium Line-up

JSW MG Motor India secured the second position with 4,496 EVs sold, marking a 61.3% YoY growth and holding 25% market share.

The brand’s strategic edge lies in innovation and diversification. Its Windsor EV featuring Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) has disrupted Tata’s dominance. The introduction of premium models like the M9 MPV and Cyberster roadster (₹72.49 lakh) under the MG Select network further expands its appeal among affluent urban customers.

The BE 6 and XEV 9e SUVs, along with the XUV400, have been instrumental in this growth. Mahindra’s Chakan factory, which produced a record 4,921 EVs in August, highlights its preparedness for sustained high-volume demand during the festive season.

Kia India Records Best Month Ever

The success is largely driven by the Carens Clavis EV MPV, a value-focused model that has struck a chord with budget-conscious buyers. Premium models like the EV6 and EV9 continue to cater to niche segments.

Hyundai India Faces Headwinds

Hyundai Motor India reported 437 EV sales, up 1113% YoY, but down significantly from earlier peaks. The Creta Electric, once expected to be a bestseller, has seen softening demand since March 2025. The Ioniq 5 remains a niche premium product catering to a limited audience.
