EVs Driving India’s Next Growth Story: Dr Jitendra Singh
Electric vehicles are rapidly transforming India’s economic and environmental landscape, emerging as a powerful force that combines environmental protection, clean energy adoption and large-scale employment creation, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said on Tuesday.

The Minister was speaking during his visit to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Expo at Bharat Mandapam, where he reviewed a wide range of electric mobility solutions and interacted with exhibitors, startups and industry stakeholders.
Dr Jitendra Singh observed that electric mobility is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day growth engine, positioning India strongly in the global transition towards sustainable transportation. He said EVs reflect how economic development and environmental responsibility can progress together, rather than being viewed as conflicting objectives.
Showcasing India’s Growing EV Capabilities
During his tour of the exhibition, the Minister visited multiple stalls showcasing Make in India electric vehicles, components and clean mobility technologies developed by domestic companies. The displays included electric two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial EVs, e-rickshaws, charging solutions and advanced components, highlighting the depth and diversity of India’s EV ecosystem.
Praising Indian manufacturers, Dr Jitendra Singh noted the rapid technological progress achieved by indigenous companies within a short span of time. He said the growing confidence and innovation capacity of Indian EV firms demonstrate that India is not merely adopting global technologies, but is also emerging as a contributor to global clean mobility solutions.
According to the Minister, the EV sector has become a key pillar of India’s transition towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future, while simultaneously strengthening domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.

PM Modi’s Vision Driving Clean Mobility Push
Addressing the media, Dr Jitendra Singh underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently prioritised environmental protection and e-mobility since the beginning of his tenure. He said the Prime Minister has worked to build widespread public awareness about climate change while highlighting new technological options available worldwide.
As a result, India is benefiting from global innovations while also shaping its own clean mobility roadmap, the Minister said. Electric mobility, he added, aligns seamlessly with the Prime Minister’s broader vision of sustainable development, self-reliance and technology-driven growth.
Clean Energy Reforms and EVs Go Hand in Hand
Drawing a parallel with recent policy initiatives, Dr Jitendra Singh referred to the SHANTI Bill, 2025, which promotes private participation in nuclear energy. He said such reforms reflect the Government’s holistic approach to building a diversified and reliable clean energy ecosystem.
Electric vehicles, he noted, are a natural extension of this approach, as they reduce dependence on fossil fuels while supporting India’s developmental aspirations. Together, clean energy reforms and electric mobility are strengthening India’s long-term energy security.

Ease of Use and Expanding Applications of EVs
Highlighting the practical benefits of electric vehicles, the Minister said EVs offer a simpler and more user-friendly driving experience compared to conventional vehicles. Reduced physical effort, smoother operation and simplified controls make EVs suitable for a wide range of users.
He also stressed the versatility of electric mobility, pointing out its growing adoption across sectors such as ambulances, e-rickshaws, passenger transport and commercial logistics. This expanding use demonstrates that EVs are capable of meeting diverse mobility needs across urban and semi-urban India.
EVs as a Catalyst for Youth Entrepreneurship
One of the strongest impacts of electric mobility, Dr Jitendra Singh said, is its role as a powerful engine of entrepreneurship, employment and livelihoods, particularly for the youth. He highlighted that the government-backed EV ecosystem has lowered entry barriers, enabling young entrepreneurs to start EV-related ventures with modest investments.
With access to technical guidance, policy support and financial assistance, many startups have been able to scale rapidly and achieve high turnovers within a short time, he said. Opportunities extend beyond vehicle manufacturing to areas such as charging infrastructure, battery technology, software, maintenance services and component production.

Need for Greater Awareness and Outreach
The Minister stressed the need for greater outreach and awareness among young people about the vast opportunities available in the EV sector. He said electric mobility represents a clear pathway for innovation-led growth, self-reliance and sustainable development, and can play a crucial role in shaping India’s future workforce.
EV Expo Supporting Make in India and Viksit Bharat
The EV Expo at Bharat Mandapam brings together leading manufacturers, startups, technology providers and policy stakeholders on a common platform. The event aims to showcase innovations, encourage collaboration and accelerate India’s journey towards clean and smart mobility.
Aligned with the Make in India and Viksit Bharat vision, the Expo underscores how electric vehicles are becoming more than just a transport alternative. As highlighted by Dr Jitendra Singh, EVs are emerging as a transformative force that links environmental responsibility with economic opportunity, firmly positioning India in the global clean mobility revolution.
