Electric two-wheelers made up 11.4% of all two-wheeler registrations in the month. TVS Motor led with 53,989 units, Bajaj Auto followed with 48,383, and Ather Energy took third with 30,477. September crossed the 2 lakh mark again after July, and the first half of FY27 passed 1 million registrations. Calendar-year registrations from January to September are around 15.61 lakh, which is already above the full-year 2025 total, as reported by multiple outlets citing Vahan.

Why You Will See Different Totals

If you searched this month's number, you probably saw more than one. Reports cite 1.97 lakh (up 7.7% on August), 2.03 lakh (up 12%), and a live dashboard check on 2 October showed 2,07,134. All of them trace back to Vahan. The portal keeps updating as dealers upload registrations, and a figure pulled on 1 October will differ from one pulled on 2 October or later.

We use the Nuvama compilation of 2,03,411 here because it comes with a full OEM breakdown. Treat any month-end figure published in the first two or three days of the next month as provisional. Our July report explained the same effect, and September follows the same pattern.

TVS, Bajaj and Hero together accounted for 62% of September registrations. The eight brands above add up to 1,90,492 units, roughly 93.7% of the month (Evfy's own calculation from the table).

Brand-by-Brand: Who Gained, Who Lost

TVS Motor kept the top spot with 53,989 units, up 126% on September 2025. Its share eased to 26.5% from 27.1% in August, even as volumes grew 10% month on month.

Bajaj Auto grew faster than TVS, adding 17% over August and 139% year on year. Its share rose to 23.8% from 22.7%, and the gap to TVS is now just 5,606 units.

Ather Energy registered 30,477 units, but its share slipped to 15% from 16% because the market grew faster than Ather did (+5% MoM). Ather's new Konarc was due to start deliveries in September, per Autocar India, so any lift from it would show mostly in October data and later.

Hero Vida posted the strongest monthly jump among the top five, up 27% over August and 83% year on year, to 24,305 units. Its share rose 140 basis points to 11.9%.

Ola Electric registered 13,449 units, down 3% year on year and 4% on August. Its share fell to 6.6%, compared with 7.7% in August and 12.6% in September last year.

Among smaller brands, Greaves Electric (9,317 units), River Mobility (5,549) and BGauss (5,023) all grew sharply from a low base.

H1 FY27 Market Share Shift

The six-month picture shows the same direction as September: established manufacturers are taking share from startups.

Which Models Are Driving the Numbers

A reliable model-wise split for September 2026 has not been published yet, so we are not ranking individual scooters this month. At the brand level, the volume drivers are the TVS iQube and Orbiter, the Bajaj Chetak range, the Ather Rizta and 450 family, and the Hero Vida VX2 range.

Once model-level Vahan data is out, we will update this post. In the meantime, our comparison covers the newest entrants side by side.

Evfy's Take

1. The Bajaj-TVS gap is the number to watch. Bajaj grew 17% month on month against TVS's 10%, and the difference between them fell to 5,606 units. One month does not make a trend, but if Bajaj keeps outgrowing TVS, the top spot could be contested within a few months.

2. Ola's share has roughly halved in a year. From 12.6% to 6.6% in twelve months, while its units barely moved (-3%). The market tripled around it. Ola did not shrink much in absolute terms; everyone else simply grew faster.

3. The 2 million target is within reach. At 11,08,606 units in six months, the market needs about 8.91 lakh registrations from October to March to cross 20 lakh in FY27, per Autocar Professional. That works out to roughly 1.49 lakh a month (Evfy's calculation), well below September's 2.03 lakh.
