India’s EV Sales Jump 77% in 2025, FADA Data Shows
India’s passenger electric vehicle (EV) market witnessed a sharp acceleration in 2025, with retail sales rising 77.04% year-on-year, underscoring the rapid mainstreaming of electric mobility across the country. According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total passenger EV retail volumes climbed to 176,817 units in calendar year 2025, compared to 99,875 units in 2024.
As a result, EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment improved to 4.0%, up from 2.4% a year earlier, driven by higher demand for mass-market electric models and a growing lineup of electric SUVs.

Industry Outlook and Policy Push
Commenting on the trend, CS Vigneshwar, President, FADA, said that 2025 marked a turning point for India’s electrification journey. He noted that EV adoption is now scaling across segments, supported by improved product offerings and lower total cost of ownership. However, he emphasized the need for stronger charging infrastructure, policy continuity, and wider retail financing access to sustain growth and expand EV adoption pan-India.
Tata Motors Maintains Leadership

Tata Motors’ EV arm, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), continued to dominate the passenger EV space in 2025. The company retailed 70,004 electric vehicles, registering a 13.28% YoY growth. Mahindra Records Nearly Five-Fold Growth

Mahindra & Mahindra posted one of the strongest growth trajectories in 2025, with passenger EV retail volumes surging nearly five-fold to 33,513 units.
