India’s rooftop solar story just found a new frontrunner and it’s not one of the usual metro cities as per the recent data released.
Lucknow has emerged as the top-performing City in India for rooftop solar installations, marking a major shift in how clean energy is being adopted across the country.
But this isn’t just a statistic. It’s a signal. A signal that solar is no longer niche, it’s going mainstream and fast.
Record-breaking Milestone for Uttar Pradesh
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the campaign for rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has made Lucknow a national leader. According to the Director of Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Mr. Indrajeet Singh:
- More than 87,000 rooftop solar plants have already been installed in Lucknow so far under the scheme.
- Additional 3,133 rooftop solar plants were added by 15th April alone.
All of this makes Lucknow the leading district in the country for adopting solar energy, a remarkable achievement.
Why is Lucknow seeing such rapid growth in Solar adoption?
1. As per the experts, the electricity consumption has increased significantly in urban areas due to the growing use of induction cooktops and the rising demand for Electric Vehicles(EVs).
2. Increased awareness about the environment and an increased desire to control the rising electricity bills have also encouraged people to adopt to solar energy.
The rooftop solar systems are providing long-term financial benefits to consumers and making them self-reliant in energy.
3. Government subsidies by both Central and State are also playing an important role in the growth.
4. Installation process has also become faster and smoother with support of the DISCOMs, making it a seamless experience.
The success of Lucknow is a part of much larger shift which we are seeing across the country. Across Uttar Pradesh as well the awareness is increasing and it’s set to become a key hub in coming days.
A future where the Homes and generate their own power, predictable and transparent power bills and clean energy is becoming a default choice.
