After its official debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo'25, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVitara has now been spied testing on Indian roads, fully camouflaged, near Sector 54 Chowk in Gurgaon. The EV seems to be in the final stage of testing before its official launch, likely to happen in May 2025. Here’s what we know so far.
First impressions
For its first all-electric SUV, Maruti has chosen a bold, rugged design that aligns with the taste of compact SUV buyers in India. At the front, it gets sharp LED headlamps, a tough-looking bumper, and a sculpted bonnet with aggressive lines.

The sides are beefed up with chunky cladding on the fenders, aerodynamic R18 alloys, and heavy door moulding. Rear door handles are C-pillar-mounted for a cleaner profile. At the back, the taillamps mirror the design theme of the front lights, adding symmetry to the SUV’s look.
Interiors and tech
Inside, the eVitara promises a premium experience. The cabin gets a dual-tone dashboard with vertically stacked air vents, a floating center console, and ambient lighting with multi-color modes. Maruti is also offering a fixed glass sunroof.

The feature list includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat. Audio duties are handled by a premium Harman sound system.
Safety and ADAS features
Maruti has equipped the eVitara with a strong safety suite. It includes 7 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, TPMS, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with brake hold, and a 360-degree camera.
ADAS Level 2 features are also part of the package, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, and high beam assist. These bring the eVitara in line with upcoming competition in the segment.

Performance and range
The base variant of the eVitara will get a 49 kWh LFP battery pack sourced from BYD. It will support a front-wheel-drive setup, producing around 172 bhp and 192.5 Nm of torque. These battery packs are tested for extreme temperature ranges, from -30°C to 60°C.
Mid and top variants will use a larger 61 kWh battery, claiming a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The dual-motor AWD variant with Maruti’s AllGrip-e system will push 181 bhp and 300 Nm, offering drive modes like Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow mode for tricky terrains.
Expected launch and rivals
The Maruti eVitara is expected to launch in May 2025, with prices ranging between ₹18 lakh to ₹28 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete with the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and the Mahindra BE 6.
