The brand's upcoming three-row electric MPV, internally codenamed YMC, has been spotted testing once again on Indian roads. Maruti's First Electric MPV

Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, we still got a sneak peak at few details. The upcoming EV appears significantly larger than the Ertiga and features a boxy silhouette designed to maximise cabin space. It gets a long roofline, large rear quarter glass area, aero-style alloy wheels and an upright stance, all of which point towards a practical three-row layout.

The front end seems to borrow some design elements from the e Vitara, while the rear gets vertically stacked tail lamps connected by a light bar. Like most modern EVs, the YMC is expected to feature several aerodynamic enhancements to improve efficiency. The YMC is expected to be based on the same Heartect-e platform that underpins the e Vitara. This dedicated EV architecture allows manufacturers to package batteries beneath the floor, creating more cabin and third-row space.

Meanwhile, Maruti is likely to borrow the battery packs from the e Vitara. It means that buyers will have two options: a 49 kWh unit and a 61 kWh unit. However, the range might differ. While official details are yet to be announced, the bigger pack is expected to belt out close to 500 km of range.

Coming to the features front, being positioned as a family MPV, it is expected to be loaded with a ton of features. Some of the key features include a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and much more. Meanwhile, the safety package could include seven airbags, ESC, level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and more.

Although Maruti Suzuki has not revealed the launch timeline yet, it is expected to make its debut by the end of this year. After the launch, it will go head-to-head with the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
