JSW MG Motor India has achieved a significant milestone in its electric mobility journey by becoming the first carmaker in the country to install 1,000 community EV chargers. The charging points have been set up under the company's MG Charge initiative and are spread across more than 470 locations nationwide.
The charging network covers a wide range of public and semi-public locations, including residential societies, apartment complexes, hospitals, educational institutions, hotels, and industrial parks. The initiative is aimed at making EV ownership more convenient and reducing range anxiety for electric vehicle users.
MG EVs Have Covered 290 Crore Kilometres
Alongside the charging infrastructure milestone, MG also revealed that its electric vehicles have collectively covered over 290 crore kilometres on Indian roads. According to the brand, this has helped prevent approximately 4.17 lakh metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, highlighting the growing impact of EV adoption in the country.
MG currently has one of the widest EV portfolios in India, with models such as the Comet EV, Windsor EV and ZS EV contributing to the brand's electric vehicle sales.
The automaker has also confirmed plans to further strengthen its electrified lineup in 2026. MG is preparing to introduce three new-energy vehicles (NEVs) in the Indian market. The upcoming products will include plug-in hybrid technology, indicating that the company is looking beyond pure electric vehicles to cater to different customer requirements.
Sustainability Efforts
MG's sustainability efforts extend beyond its product lineup. The brand's manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, currently operates with more than 78 % renewable energy and sources nearly 95 % of its power requirements from renewable sources. These initiatives have helped reduce carbon emissions by more than 9,300 metric tonnes.
The brand has also reduced water consumption at the plant by 23 % through recycling and process optimisation measures. Other initiatives include a zero-discharge water treatment system, waste management programs, biogas generation facilities, and large-scale tree plantation drives.
What This Means for EV Buyers
One of the biggest concerns among potential EV buyers continues to be charging accessibility. By expanding its community charging infrastructure, MG is attempting to address that challenge and make EV ownership easier, particularly for customers who may not have access to dedicated home charging.
With 1,000 community chargers now operational and several new electrified vehicles in the pipeline, MG appears to be strengthening its position as one of the key players in India's growing electric mobility space.
