Quick Highlights:Yamaha Jog E unveiled as a new all-electric city scooter for JapanPowered by Honda’s modular Mobile Power Pack e: swappable batteryOffered at 159,500 JPY excluding battery subscriptionAvailable initially in Tokyo and Osaka from December 25, 2025Yamaha has officially introduced the all-new Jog E, an electric scooter tailored for the urban mobility needs of Japan. This launch marks a significant shift from the long-running ICE-powered Jog model, which has been discontinued following the tightening of emission regulations in the country. With cleaner mobility solutions gaining traction, Yamaha’s decision to bring in an all-electric successor aligns with the changing policy landscape and consumer preferences. Positioned as an affordable and highly practical city commuter, the Jog E carries forward the familiar simplicity of the Jog lineup while integrating modern EV technology. One of the most notable aspects of the Yamaha Jog E is its power source: the Honda Mobile Power Pack e:. This swappable battery pack is part of a unique collaboration among Japan’s top motorcycle brands—Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki—to standardize battery specifications. The shared platform aims to expand EV adoption by simplifying the ecosystem and making charging more convenient. The Mobile Power Pack e: has a rated capacity of 1.5 kWh and can be used singly or in pairs, depending on the vehicle. Yamaha equips the Jog E with a single unit, optimized for city trips and daily commuting. The reliance on swappable battery technology also introduces a new operational model. Yamaha will only sell the Jog E scooter, while a separate entity, Gachaco Co., Ltd., will manage the battery swapping and charging network. This division of responsibility allows Yamaha to maintain competitive pricing while giving customers access to a structured battery swapping infrastructure. Users will need to enter into a separate contract with Gachaco to utilize the service. This setup aims to reduce downtime and eliminate range anxiety, a common concern among EV users. On a single battery, the Jog E promises a range of around 53 km, which suits short-distance commuting and routine urban use. When combined with the ability to quickly swap batteries, the limited range becomes less restrictive than traditional fixed-battery EVs. The scooter is powered by an AC synchronous motor producing 1.7 kW (2.3 PS) and 90 Nm of torque. While these output figures may seem modest, they are adequate for stop-and-go traffic and city streets, where efficiency and smooth delivery are more important than speed. In terms of size, the Yamaha Jog E maintains compact dimensions that are ideal for narrow Japanese roads. The scooter measures 1,795 mm in length, 680 mm in width and 1,140 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,300 mm. Ground clearance stands at 135 mm and seat height at 740 mm, making it accessible for a broad range of riders. With the battery installed, the scooter’s weight is 93 kg, helping it remain nimble in traffic and easy to maneuver in tight parking spaces. The Jog E rides on a combination of 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels, fitted with 90/90 front and 100/90 rear tires. Braking duties are handled by a front disc brake and a rear drum brake with a combi brake system (CBS) for balanced stopping power. The suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear, ensuring a stable and comfortable ride over daily routes.Visually, the Yamaha Jog E maintains a clean and functional design theme. It is offered in two understated shades—Dark Gray Metallic and Light Gray. The scooter features full LED lighting, a polygon-inspired headlamp housing, circular mirrors and flat body panels that echo the traditional Jog silhouette with a modern twist. The horizontal tail lamp incorporates turn indicators for a clean and integrated appearance. Practicality is a strong point, with a flat and spacious floorboard that allows easy loading of bags or small cargo.Storage and utility features further boost its everyday usability. Riders get a 500 ml front utility pocket, a USB Type-A charging port, a sturdy front hook for bags and underseat storage for small essentials. The Jog E also comes equipped with an inverted LCD display that presents key ride information clearly. Yamaha offers three riding modes—Eco, Ready and Speed—to help users manage power output depending on road conditions and usage.Yamaha has priced the Jog E at 159,500 JPY, which is approximately ₹90,000. This figure covers only the scooter, as the battery service is subscription-based and managed by Gachaco. The Jog E will go on sale in Japan starting December 25, 2025, with availability limited initially to Tokyo and Osaka. With its swappable battery system, competitive pricing and practical design, the Yamaha Jog E aims to reshape short-distance mobility in Japanese cities. It not only represents Yamaha’s evolving EV strategy but also highlights Japan’s collective push toward standardized and user-friendly electric mobility solutions.
