Maharashtra has decided to shut down nearly 90% of Ola Electric Mobility’s 450 showrooms in the state as they flag missing permits to store vehicles. This has potentially disrupted the sales of the company in the country’s largest battery-powered scooter market.Maharashtra transport department has informed the office of the state’s transport minister that regional authorities have taken action against the stores which do not have the required trade certificate .Trade certificates are a regulatory requirement to keep unregistered vehicles in the showroom and facilitate sales . The state’s move marks another setback to Ola while they grapple with a lack of service infrastructure and now disruption in registrations . Once the largest seller of electric scooters, Ola has now slipped to third place behind TVS and Bajaj Auto.Maharashtra recorded sales of 212,000 electric two-wheelers in the year ended 31 March 2025, making it the largest electric scooter market in the country.
