In a thrilling showcase of electric power and Porsche engineering, the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV prototype stunned spectators at the 2025 Motorsport UK British Hillclimb Championship at Shelsley Walsh by setting a jaw-dropping new SUV record.Still cloaked in camo, albeit with neon-purple lettering boldly announcing "Cayenne", the prototype didn’t go unnoticed. Adding to its dramatic entrance was a roof rack, because apparently, Porsche doesn’t do subtle.Despite being a full-sized electric SUV likely sporting 22- or 23-inch wheels , the Cayenne EV completed the iconic hill climb in just 31.28 seconds . That’s more than four seconds faster than the previous SUV record, a massive margin in the hill climb world. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the prototype shot to the 60-foot mark in a blistering 1.94 seconds , rivaling high-end electric hypercars. The sharp acceleration was accompanied by what seemed like artificial acceleration sounds , possibly pumped through external speakers for added drama. The announcers put it best: “For a big car that is scuttering up the hill... something special.”At the helm was Gabriela Jilkova , a test driver from Porsche’s Formula E program, who appeared to wring out every ounce of performance from the electric motors. While Porsche hasn’t yet released technical specifications, expectations point toward power figures north of 600 bhp and torque nearing 1,000 Nm , judging by the performance benchmarks of their Taycan.Visually, the prototype retains distinct Porsche design language with quad LED DRLs , a sleek rear LED strip , and an EV-specific C-pillar design . Active aero elements were visibly at play during the run, working hard to keep the high-riding SUV firmly planted on the narrow track. This development comes even as Porsche confirms that ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) Cayennes will continue to be produced beyond 2030 , signaling a dual-path approach to performance and sustainability. For India, where Porsche’s electric future is eagerly anticipated, this record-breaking run sets the tone. The electric Cayenne, when it eventually arrives, promises to be more than just a premium SUV. It could be a redefinition of EV performance for the luxury segment.Stay tuned for further updates!
