Renault has confirmed that the Bridger EV will be its first electric car for India. It will be built on the same sub-4 metre SUV as the petrol Bridger and will arrive a few months after the combustion model, which is expected before the end of 2027. Renault has not announced an exact launch date, battery size, range or price. Estimates put the price at around ₹10 lakh to ₹14 lakh (ex-showroom), but every figure beyond the launch order is unconfirmed. Renault has not announced bookings.
What Renault has confirmed about the Bridger EV
Renault's India leadership has said that the first fully electric car in its India line-up will be based on the Bridger, and that it will arrive a few months after the combustion version. The petrol Bridger is expected before the end of 2027, so the EV follows soon after.
The Bridger was first shown as a concept on 10 March 2026, when Renault laid out its futuREady strategy. Renault said then that the SUV will be designed and developed in India, launched here first and then supplied to other markets. The company has also claimed that the EV version will deliver class-leading efficiency, though it has not shared any numbers to back that up.
The petrol Bridger will debut a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that Renault plans to manufacture locally. A hybrid version is planned, and a CNG option is reported to be under consideration. The EV is the third powertrain in a multi-energy plan, not a separate model.

Size, space and platform: the claimed figures
These are the figures Renault has shared for the Bridger concept and the SUV it previews. The EV version may differ, especially on boot space once a battery pack is fitted.
| Parameter | Claimed figure |
| Length | Under 4,000 mm |
| Boot space | 400 litres |
| Rear knee room | About 200 mm |
| Ground clearance | 200 mm |
| Wheels on the concept | 18-inch |
| Platform | RGMP |
| Position in the range | Between the Kiger and the Duster (per reports) |
The design is boxy and rugged, with illuminated "RENAULT" lettering up front and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel on the concept. Renault has not shown the interior.
Battery, range and price: what is still unconfirmed
This is where the gaps are. Renault has not published a battery capacity, a range figure or a price for the Bridger EV.
Here is what has been reported, and how much weight it deserves:
- Battery: Reports do not agree. Some suggest a pack of up to about 40 kWh, with LFP cells expected to keep the price down. Others assume 35 kWh and 55 kWh options. Renault has confirmed neither.
- Range: Estimates in circulation run from roughly 300 km to 500 km on a claimed basis. Renault has not backed any of them.
- Charging: Reports expect AC and DC fast charging, which is standard for the segment.
- Price: Estimates start around ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom), and Evfy's own estimate runs up to ₹14 lakh. Other listings differ, so treat the range as wide.
None of these numbers should be quoted as official until Renault publishes them.
Who the Bridger EV will take on
Reports expect the Bridger EV to compete with the electric versions of the Tata Nexon and Tata Punch and with the sub-4 metre electric SUVs that are already on sale. Two of those have confirmed numbers:
| Rival | Launch price (ex-showroom) | Battery | Status |
| Kia Syros EV | ₹13.49 lakh (42 kWh); ₹16.99 lakh (51.4 kWh) | 42 kWh / 51.4 kWh | On sale since 23 July 2026 |
| Mahindra XUV 3XO EV | ₹13.89 lakh (AX5); ₹14.96 lakh (AX7L) | 39.4 kWh, 285 km claimed | On sale; deliveries began 23 February 2026 |
If the Bridger EV lands anywhere near the ₹10 lakh to ₹14 lakh estimate, it would sit at or below where these two start today. That is why price will matter more than any other number Renault announces.
We will add a full spec-by-spec comparison once Renault confirms the battery, range and price. Comparing against guesses would not help you.
Should you wait for the Bridger EV?
Short answer: only if your purchase is more than a year away.
- If you need a car in the next 12 months, the Bridger EV is not an option. Buy from what is on sale today.
- If you can wait until 2028, it makes sense to keep the Bridger EV on your shortlist, but wait for official price and range before deciding.
- If your budget is around ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh and you want an electric SUV, the Bridger EV is aimed at you. Watch for the price announcement and the battery size.
You can track the model on Evfy's Renault Bridger page.
Evfy's Take
The word "confirmed" in this story applies to the plan, not the date. Renault has locked in the sequence (petrol first, hybrid next, EV a few months later) but has not locked in a day, a price or a battery.
That sequencing also tells us something about Renault's thinking. The brand is leading its India comeback with hybrids, with the Duster strong hybrid scheduled for 17 October 2026, and bringing its first EV in a later wave. It also means the Bridger EV will arrive in a segment where Tata has sold the Nexon EV since 2019, and where Mahindra and Kia have added sub-4 metre electric SUVs in 2026.
For the Bridger EV to work, Renault will need to get three things right: a price at or below the current sub-4 metre EVs, a real-world range that matches the claim, and a charging and service network that reassures first-time EV buyers. If Renault gets the price right, the Bridger EV could be one of the most interesting sub-4 metre EVs of 2028. If it prices too high, it risks being a good car in a segment where buyers have already chosen.
Our own timing note: "a few months after" a late-2027 petrol launch could push the EV into early 2028. That is our reading, though at least one report also lists early 2028 for the EV. It is not a Renault statement.
