Cheapest Upcoming EVs in India in 2026: Affordable Electric Cars to Watch Out For

Electric cars in India have finally started gaining real momentum, but for entry-level buyers, options are still painfully limited. Right now, MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV are doing all the heavy lifting in the affordable EV space. With just two real choices, it is understandable why many buyers are still hesitant to switch to electric.

That said, 2026 looks extremely promising. With EV sales growing faster than expected, more manufacturers are entering the budget segment with genuinely practical and interesting electric cars. Some of these are city-focused, some are lifestyle EVs, and a few could even disrupt the market entirely.

Here are the cheapest upcoming EVs in India expected in 2026, along with why I think they matter.

Vayve Mobility Eva – ₹3.99 to ₹5.99 Lakh

I will admit it upfront, this one feels like cheating, but in the best way possible. The Vayve Mobility Eva is not just an electric car, it is also solar-powered, which instantly makes it one of the most unique vehicles ever planned for India.

Why it stands out:

  • Battery options: 12.6 kWh and 18 kWh
  • Claimed range: 175–250 km
  • Top speed: Around 70 kmph
  • Seating: 2 adults + 1 child
  • Ground clearance: 170 mm
  • Solar roof option to trickle-charge the battery

Dimension-wise, this is a narrow, city-friendly car measuring roughly 2950–3060 mm in length, 1150–1200 mm in width, and 1590 mm in height, with a 2200 mm wheelbase. It is clearly designed for urban use, tight parking spaces, and short commutes.

Pre-bookings are already closed, which honestly says a lot. Deliveries are expected in the second half of 2026, and I feel this could be a game-changer for solo commuters and small families looking for the lowest possible EV running costs.

MG’s Binguo-Based EV – ₹8 to ₹11 Lakh

MG has clearly figured out how to crack the Indian EV market, and borrowing proven products from Wuling (China) seems to be working well for them. After the Comet and Windsor, the Wuling Binguo EV is the next likely candidate.

Expected highlights:

  • Range options: 203 km, 333 km, 410 km (CLTC)
  • Motor outputs: 30 kW or 50 kW
  • Top speed: 120–130 kmph
  • Charging: AC and DC fast charging support

The Binguo EV measures 3950 mm (L) x 1708 mm (W) x 1580 mm (H) with a 2560 mm wheelbase, making it a proper sub-4-meter electric hatchback. Size-wise, it sits very close to the Tata Tiago EV, but with a more modern and rounded design.

If MG prices this aggressively, I genuinely think it could become one of the best value-for-money EVs in the country.

VinFast VF3 – ₹9 Lakh

VinFast VF3
VinFast VF3

This is easily the most fun EV on this list. The VinFast VF3 is tiny, boxy, and full of personality. I can already see it becoming popular among college students and young urban buyers.

Key specifications:

  • Battery: 18.64 kWh
  • Range: 210–215 km
  • Motor: 40–43.5 hp, 110 Nm torque
  • 0–50 kmph: 5.3 seconds
  • Fast charging: 10–70% in 36 minutes
  • Seating: 4 adults

The VF3 measures 3190 mm in length, 1679 mm in width, and 1622 mm in height, with a 2075 mm wheelbase and an impressive 191 mm ground clearance. Despite its size, it offers SUV-like stance and practicality for city driving.

Personally, I think this could be the most stylish affordable EV India has seen so far, provided VinFast manages competitive pricing and service support.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV – ₹9 Lakh

An electric Wagon R feels inevitable, but Maruti Suzuki’s slow EV rollout makes this one uncertain. Still, if it does happen, it could instantly become India’s highest-selling electric car.

Expected features:

  • Battery: 45–50 kWh
  • Claimed range: 300–400 km
  • Safety: Airbags, ABS, basic ADAS features

The current Wagon R measures 3655 mm (L) x 1620 mm (W) x 1675 mm (H) with a 2435 mm wheelbase, and the EV version is expected to retain similar proportions.

That said, with the e-Vitara itself facing delays, this is the least likely launch on this list. Still, if Maruti pulls it off, the impact would be massive.

Kia Syros EV – ₹12.5 Lakh

If you have seen the Kia Syros, you will instantly notice its tall-boy proportions, somewhat similar to the Wagon R, but with Kia’s signature premium touch. Add electric power to that, and things get very interesting.

Expected specifications:

  • Battery options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh
  • Range: 300–400 km
  • Fast charging: 10–80% in ~58 minutes
  • 12.3-inch HD touchscreen
  • 12-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • Panoramic sunroof

Dimension-wise, the Syros is a sub-4-meter SUV at 3995 mm in length, 1805 mm in width, with a 2550 mm wheelbase and 390–465 litres of boot space. The EV version will largely follow the same layout.

While it is the most expensive car on this list, it also feels the most premium and tech-loaded.

Final Thoughts

For the first time, it feels like entry-level EV buyers in India will actually have choices. From ultra-affordable solar-powered city cars to stylish mini SUVs and practical family hatchbacks, 2026 could be the year EVs finally go mainstream.

Personally, I am most excited about the Vayve Eva for innovation and the VinFast VF3 for sheer fun, but the real winner will be the buyer who finally gets options at every price point.
