Denza, BYD's luxury brand, has officially confirmed it is coming to India. A 2 October 2026 social media post from Denza India carries an "Arriving soon" message, but it names no models, prices or launch date. The Z9 GT shooting brake and D9 luxury MPV are the two cars reported as the launch pair, with reports expecting the Z9 GT at ₹1.2 crore to ₹1.5 crore and the D9 at ₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh (ex-showroom). Both are expected as fully imported cars. Treat the brand entry as confirmed and everything else as reported.

What Denza has confirmed and what is only reported

The only official signal so far is the Denza India social media post on 2 October 2026. It shows the brand logo with "Arriving soon" and says Denza will bring a sophisticated, high-performance EV experience to India. That is all.

Everything else, including the two models, prices, import route and showroom plan, comes from industry reporting. BYD has also not detailed a formal launch timeline or dealership rollout.

Denza Z9 GT: reported India specs

The Z9 GT is a four-door shooting brake. It is sold as both an EV and a PHEV globally, but reports say only the electric version is coming to India.

SpecReported figure
Battery122.5kWh
MotorsThree (one front, two rear), all-wheel drive
Power1,156hp
0-100kph2.7 seconds (claimed)
Top speed270kph
Weight2.9 tonnes
Range600km (WLTP combined)
ChargingUp to 1,500kW peak; 10 to 97 per cent in about 9 minutes (claimed)
SeatingFive
Expected price₹1.2 crore to ₹1.5 crore (ex-showroom)

The car also gets cell-to-body construction (the battery cells sit directly in the structure), rear-wheel steering with a sideways "crab walk" mode, a 360-degree "Compass Turn", Level 2+ ADAS, and a 20-speaker Devialet sound system. The dashboard carries three screens, plus two more that show feeds from the outside cameras.

The claimed charging time depends on a matching 1,500kW charger. We have not seen any announcement of chargers at that power level in India, so treat the nine-minute figure as a global-spec claim for now. This is an Evfy note, not a Denza statement.

Reports name the Porsche Taycan as the only similar rival in India.

Denza D9 MPV: reported India specs

The D9 is sold with electric and plug-in hybrid power globally. For India, reports point to the EV in front-wheel-drive form.

SpecReported figure
Battery103kWh Blade battery
MotorFront-mounted, front-wheel drive
Power and torque313hp and 360Nm
Range520km (WLTP combined)
DC chargingUp to 200kW
Seating2+2+3 layout (seven seats)
Expected price₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh (ex-showroom)

The middle row is the main attraction. The captain seats are fully powered, with heating, ventilation, massage, extendable leg-rests and fold-out tables. The cabin also gets three-zone climate control, a Dynaudio sound system and full leather upholstery. An active body control system is claimed to keep the cabin flat under hard acceleration and braking.

A price discrepancy to note: Reports on 13 September put the D9 at around ₹80 lakh, while reports on 2 October say around ₹90 lakh. We have shown the range until Denza announces an official figure.

Where the D9 sits against the MG M9 and Toyota Vellfire

Reports place the D9 above the MG M9 and below the Toyota Vellfire. They also size the luxury MPV segment at roughly 2,000 units a year.

ModelPrice (ex-showroom)Status
MG M9₹79.95 lakh (₹69.99 lakh plus ₹8/km under BaaS)On sale
Denza D9₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakhExpected, not announced
Toyota Vellfire₹1.20 crore to ₹1.30 croreOn sale

The M9 uses a 90kWh battery and a front motor making 245hp and 350Nm, with a claimed 548km range. The D9's 520km figure is on the WLTP cycle, so the two range numbers should not be treated as a like-for-like comparison.

Timeline and retail plan

A 13 September report says both models will launch by the end of 2026. An earlier report (4 August 2026) said BYD was targeting around Diwali 2026, with the launch able to slip to the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027 if there is a delay. That report also said BYD would likely use the Expo for a wider showcase of the Denza brand and its India line-up.

Denza will reportedly sell through exclusive showrooms separate from BYD, to offer a more personalised buying experience. BYD's own India line-up is positioned in the ₹20 lakh to ₹80 lakh band, with Denza above ₹80 lakh. Because of this premium positioning, the network is expected to stay limited to larger cities.

Should you wait for a Denza?

None of the reports we reviewed mention bookings, a price announcement or a service plan. That makes the decision simple for now.

  • Buying an electric luxury MPV in the next few weeks: the MG M9 is the only electric option on sale in this segment that we can point to, and its price is known.
  • Planning a purchase in early 2027: waiting for the D9's official price and service details is reasonable, especially if the launch moves to February 2027.
  • Interested in the Z9 GT: treat it as a halo car. Reports expect it to sell in smaller numbers and act as a technology showcase.\

Evfy's Take

The confirmation is narrower than the headlines suggest. Denza has confirmed that it is coming. It has not confirmed what it is bringing, what it will cost, or when. Every number in this post sits on the "reported" side of that line.

The CBU route is a low-risk way into India for BYD. Reports note that BYD's proposed $1 billion plant expansion with a local partner has been slowed by Press Note 3, the 2020 rule requiring prior approval for investment from countries sharing a land border with India. Importing two niche luxury models needs no new local investment. This is our reading of the strategy, not a BYD statement.

The D9's price gap is wide. Using Evfy's own arithmetic on the reported ranges, the D9 would sit between ₹5,000 below and ₹10 lakh above the M9's ₹79.95 lakh sticker price. Against the M9's ₹69.99 lakh BaaS entry price, the upfront gap is about ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh. Against the Vellfire, the D9 would be roughly ₹30 lakh to ₹50 lakh cheaper. These are Evfy calculations, not official figures.

The 1,156hp headline has company. Reports list the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric at the same 1,156hp, and Porsche launched it in India on 30 September at ₹2.27 crore. The body styles differ (SUV against shooting brake), but it means "most powerful car on sale in India" claims for the Z9 GT, which appear in some coverage, are unverified.
