MG Windsor EV vs Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: A New Electric Face-Off

India’s electric vehicle space is heating up, and Mahindra’s latest move makes it even more interesting. With the launch of the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, the brand has finally entered the entry-level electric SUV segment, taking direct aim at one of the most established EVs in the country — the MG Windsor EV.

While MG positions the Windsor more as a CUV, Mahindra leans heavily on SUV styling and performance. On paper, the differences are subtle in some areas and quite significant in others. Let’s break it down section by section.

Battery, Range and Efficiency

Battery capacity and real-world usability are often the first things I look at in an EV, and this is where the comparison gets interesting.

The XUV 3XO EV comes with a 39.4kWh battery pack, closely matching the Windsor’s 38kWh unit, but MG also offers a much larger 52.9kWh battery option, giving it an edge for long-distance users.

ARAI-Claimed Range

  • Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: 456 km
  • MG Windsor EV (38kWh): 331 km
  • MG Windsor EV (52.9kWh): 449 km

Real-World Range

  • XUV 3XO EV: 285 km (claimed by Mahindra)
  • Windsor EV 38kWh: ~280 km (tested average)
  • Windsor EV 52.9kWh: ~380 km (tested average)

From my perspective, Mahindra’s efficiency figures are impressive for the battery size, but MG still holds the upper hand if your driving includes frequent highway runs.

Pricing and Ownership Cost

Pricing is where the fight becomes truly competitive.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV is available in AX5 and AX7 L variants, priced at Rs 13.89 lakh and Rs 14.96 lakh (ex-showroom). A 7.2kW fast charger is optional at Rs 50,000, which I feel should ideally have been standard at this price point.

The MG Windsor EV starts at Rs 13.99 lakh for the 38kWh variant and goes up to Rs 18.4 lakh for the larger battery Pro version.

MG also sweetens the deal with its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, allowing buyers to reduce upfront cost and pay Rs 3.5 per km for battery usage — a flexible option that still stands out in the segment.

Dimensions and Road Presence

In terms of size, the Windsor is clearly the bigger car, which translates to more cabin space and road presence.

MG Windsor EV Dimensions:

  • Length: 4295mm
  • Width: 1850mm
  • Height: 1677mm
  • Wheelbase: 2700mm
  • Wheels: 18-inch
  • Ground Clearance: 186mm

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV Dimensions:

  • Length: 3900mm
  • Width: 1821mm
  • Height: 1617mm
  • Wheelbase: 2600mm
  • Wheels: 16-inch
  • Ground Clearance: 190mm

While the Windsor feels more spacious, I do like Mahindra’s slightly higher ground clearance, which should help on rough Indian roads.

Features and Technology

Both cars are loaded, but they cater to slightly different buyers.

The XUV 3XO EV focuses on tech-forward features like a panoramic sunroof, dual 10.25-inch screens, LED projector headlamps, Adrenox infotainment with Alexa, 65W Type-C charging, and a 7-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos.

Safety is a strong point too, with Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, 360-degree camera, ESC, TCS, and auto-dimming IRVM. Personally, the inclusion of ADAS at this price feels like a big win for Mahindra.

The MG Windsor EV counters with comfort-focused features like a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a powered tailgate.

What truly sets MG apart is its V2L and V2V charging capability, something I think future-focused EV buyers will appreciate. Safety includes six airbags, all four disc brakes, ESC, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Final Thoughts: Which One Makes More Sense?

If you want a compact electric SUV with strong efficiency, modern tech, and ADAS, the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV feels like a smart, value-driven choice.

On the other hand, the MG Windsor EV still makes a strong case if space, premium features, flexible ownership models, and long-range capability matter more to you.

For me, this isn’t a clear winner-takes-all situation. Instead, it’s a refreshing sign that India’s electric market is finally offering real choices, not just alternatives.
