MG Windsor EV is currently India’s No.1 selling EV, beating Tata and Mahindra to the top spot. In 2025 alone, MG Windsor EV has registered over 46,000 unit sales and is still going strong.
Now, it is obvious that a lot of people are actually buying this car, and a lot more are planning to as well. However, there is a sharp difference in the information available on this vehicle, where most people are singing praises and very few talk about the cons of this EV.
Ofcourse, a car like Windsor has to have a barrage of amazing features that makes people pick it despite (or maybe even because of) its looks. But once you drive this car, there are a few things that become hard to ignore.

Please keep in mind that this review comes from someone who isn’t easily impressed by cars and there’s a lot that people are willing to compromise on when actually buying the Windsor. What is listed here as a con might as well be a minor inconvenience at best for the customers. This review is meant to throw light on the cons, just to help people make a more informed decision.
MG Windsor EV Shortcomings
1. Lack of Buttons
While driving this car, it is a very big risk to have to look at the screen and the lack of physical buttons is something that I have personally not been a fan of in any of the recent models in the industry. Call me old-school but buttons were far more convenient than a touchscreen based controls. There is also the problem of the two-in-one or three-in-one button functions, which make it a bit of a hassle. There is surely a learning curve and it is something you can get used to once you start driving this car regularly.
2. 360-degree Camera Quality
This is a feature of the Pro version, but for an EV that costs upward of 18 lakh, it could have had a much better camera quality. Especially when you compare it with others in the sub-20 Lakh category, the quality is a stark downgrade.

3. Cabin Noise and NVH
The NVH levels are slightly below par when it comes to electric vehicles. Even the horn is a little too loud inside the cabin when it shouldn’t be.
4. Screen Lag
Okay, this is a major one. The screen lags. Like, a lot. Especially when you connect the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it will be glitching and lagging all over the place. This is not just an inconvenience but a driving hazard. The lag isn’t too major but it is very common in China-sourced technology. In contrast, other cars, especially ICE cars, have much better touchscreen systems and work a lot better.

5. Music System Lacks Quality
The Infinity audio system in the MG Windsor is a little lack luster, I won’t lie. For people who are used to something like Spotify premium will definitely notice the difference.
6. Suspension Could be Better
This is a well-known problem with the MG Windsor. The suspension is just a bit too stiff and you can feel every single undulation on the road. Driving styles may make this better or worse so test drive is a must when it comes to this car.

Conclusion
While there are a few shortcomings when it comes to the MG Windsor EV, I truly believe there is no electric car that can compete with this one, atleast not in this price segment. Ofcourse, if you go higher, you’ll have the option of Tata Harrier EV and the Mahindra electric twins, the BE 6 and XEV 9e.
