While the electric passenger vehicle segment has been dominated by the big three — Tata, MG and Mahindra — there is a surprising new entrant in the list which has quickly pulled up on the fourth spot, merely months after its debut.
Yes, we talking about VinFast, the Vietnamese EV brand that made its entry in the Indian market with the flagship VF7 and VF6 models. Launched in September of 2025, these two electric SUVs have quickly made their mark on the Indian public, with VinFast recording more sales than all of their competitors, barring the top three. VinFast has managed to outsell the established EV players like BMW, Kia and Hyundai, turning the tables effectively in their corner.

1. Tata Motors
With a total of 6,453 unit sales, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility continues to command the lion’s share of the market. Tata’s diverse portfolio, catering to every price bracket, has ensured the company’s dominance despite rising competition from JSW MG Motor and Mahindra. From the Tata Tiago EV to the Harrier EV AWD version, Tata has an EV for everyone. This success can be traced to the ever popular Nexon EV and the fan-favorite Harrier EV.
2. MG Motor
MG Motor has maintained a strong hold on the No. 2 position with 3,557 unit sales in December. While the company offers three EVs — MG Comet EV, MG Windsor EV, and MG ZS EV — the majority of these sales numbers are attributed to the success of the MG Windsor EV which has remained the top-selling EV ever since its debut. However, the third OEM on this list is quickly gaining on MG with its own superstars.
3. Mahindra
Yes, Mahindra is quickly gaining traction and showing serious competition to MG, with December sales reaching a whopping 3,066 sales, just 500 shy of taking the No. 2 spot from MG. To what do they owe this success? The BE 6 and XEV 9e, ofcourse. These flagship SUVs have such a demanding road presence, that they are impossible to miss. For those who want to stand out from the crowd, these SUVs have become a fan-favorite.
4. VinFast
In a surprising turn of events, VinFast has registered 375 unit sales, surpassing premium brands like BMW and Kia, and leaving Hyundai in the dust.
With their flagship VF6 and VF7, the company has found a decent footing in the Indian EV market, and is expected to achieve far greater sales in 2026.
5. BMW
In the luxury tier, BMW India has registered 343 units in December, maintaining a slight lead over Kia India. BMW is currently the best selling premium luxury EV brand, with decent numbers throughout 2025.
6. Kia India
Kia India has registered 314 unit sales in December, with nearly all sales attributed to the Carens Clavis EV. While Kia offers the premium EV6 and EV9 in India, their recent success is due to the more budget-friendly 7-seater, the Carens Clavis EV.
