Growing Market Share in a Competitive EV LandscapeWith sales of 100,383 units in 2025 so far, Hero MotoCorp has registered a robust 135 percent year-on-year growth rate. These numbers translate into an 8 percent share of India’s electric two-wheeler market, which has seen total sales of around 1.19 million units this year. The only OEMs ahead of Hero MotoCorp are TVS with 278,596 units (23 percent share), Bajaj Auto with 254,629 Chetak sales (21 percent), Ola Electric at 191,384 units (16 percent), and Ather Energy at 186,664 units (15 percent). Hero now joins this exclusive group of manufacturers that have crossed the 100,000-unit threshold this calendar year. Below this top five group, Greaves Electric Mobility, which sells Ampere electric scooters, is the next closest competitor with 52,441 units. What’s Fueling Hero’s EV Surge: The Vida V2 and the Game-Changing VX2The backbone of Hero MotoCorp’s remarkable 2025 performance is its expanded and strategically priced product portfolio. The Vida V2, introduced in December 2024, refreshed the earlier V1 range and delivered better range, performance, and features. Available in two variants, the V2 Plus with a 3.4 kWh battery offers 143 km of range and an 85 kmph top speed, while the V2 Pro extends the range to 165 km with a 90 kmph top speed. However, the true accelerator has been the Vida VX2, launched in July 2025. This model has quickly become one of the most affordable electric scooters in India thanks to Hero’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) pricing, which significantly reduces the upfront purchase cost. The base VX2 Go variant, priced at ₹73,850 ex-showroom, drops dramatically to ₹44,990 under the BaaS option. Similarly, the VX2 Plus variant costs ₹57,990 with BaaS and ₹94,800 without it.This pricing strategy has allowed Hero to target value-conscious buyers and fleet operators, segments that are increasingly critical in India’s expanding EV market.Battery Options, Performance, and Fast-Charging CapabilitiesA key differentiator for the Vida VX2 range is its removable battery system. The VX2 Go is equipped with a single 2.2 kWh removable battery offering a real-world range of 92 km. The VX2 Plus, on the other hand, comes with dual removable batteries totaling 3.4 kWh and providing up to 142 km range — similar to the Vida V2 Pro.Both variants are powered by a motor that generates 6 kW peak power, 3.9 kW continuous power, and 25 Nm torque. The VX2 Plus delivers a 0 to 40 kmph acceleration time of 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 80 kmph, while the Go variant posts a 4.2-second acceleration time and a 70 kmph top speed.Charging flexibility is another standout feature. VX2 owners can charge the batteries within the scooter or remove them for indoor charging. Additionally, the VX2 supports India’s expanding fast-charging ecosystem, including access to 4,600 fast-charging points nationwide, of which 4,000 belong to the Ather Grid network.New 3.4 kWh Variant Strengthens the VX2 Go PortfolioOn November 10, Hero MotoCorp further strengthened its lineup by introducing a new 3.4 kWh variant of the VX2 Go. Priced at ₹84,800 (or ₹60,000 with BaaS), this version offers significantly improved range and is designed to bridge the gap between affordability and longer daily commuting needs. It delivers up to 100 km of real-world range — 36 km more than the earlier 2.2 kWh variant — and shares similar hardware and features with the rest of the VX2 Go family. With its rapidly expanding Vida portfolio, competitive pricing, nationwide fast-charging compatibility, and aggressive market expansion strategy, Hero MotoCorp has firmly positioned itself as one of the fastest-growing EV brands in India. The company’s performance in 2025 is not only its best yet but also a clear signal that it intends to challenge the current market leaders in the years ahead.
