Honda has confirmed that its first electric SUV for India, the 0 Alpha, will make its India debut on 2 December 2026. The SUV will be built in India for domestic sales and exports. Honda has not yet announced the battery size, motor output, range, price or the date when customers can buy it. On paper, it will go up against rivals such as the Tata Sierra EV (from ₹18.79 lakh ex-showroom), Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

What Honda has confirmed

Honda's announcement is short on numbers but clear on the basics. Here is what is on the record.

Honda says the testing programme covers highways, city traffic and rough terrain. The company has also said it is checking durability, ride and handling, efficiency and reliability, including in extreme temperatures, heavy rain and varied charging conditions.

The 0 Alpha will be Honda Cars India's fourth new car of 2026, after the City facelift (May), the ZR-V hybrid (July) and the Elevate facelift (October).

What is reported but not confirmed

Everything in this table comes from industry reports and spy shots, not from Honda. Treat it as an expectation, not a spec sheet.

DetailReportedStatus
BatteryTwo options, possibly in the 65 kWh to 75 kWh rangeUnconfirmed
MotorSingle electric motor driving the front wheelsUnconfirmed
RangeMore than 400 km claimedUnconfirmed, and the test cycle is unknown
DesignUpright stance, tall roofline, large glass area, closed-off front fasciaSeen on camouflaged test vehicles
InteriorLarge wide-format central touchscreen, separate digital driver display, multifunction steering wheelSeen in spy shots
SizePrototype wheelbase around 2,750 mm, roughly 100 mm more than the ElevateConcept figure, production car may differ

We have flagged the range figure in particular. A 400 km claim means little until Honda says which test cycle it uses, because MIDC, WLTP and real-world figures can differ by a large margin.

Debut is not launch: what 2 December means for buyers

The 2 December event is an India debut, which Honda has described as the unveil. It is not a price announcement or a sales start. Honda has not said when bookings will open or when deliveries will begin.

For you as a buyer, that means two things. First, 2 December is likely to be the first time the production design, cabin and core specs are shown officially. Second, pricing may come later, so it is worth holding off on any firm buying decision until Honda shares an ex-showroom figure.

Why the 0 Alpha matters for Honda in India

Honda's global EV plans have been reset this year. The company cancelled the North America-bound Honda 0 SUV, 0 Saloon and Acura RSX programmes amid changing market conditions and financial pressure. The 0 Alpha, however, has continued, with India serving as both a market and a manufacturing base.

Honda has also said the 0 Alpha is a fresh product for India and not a reworked version of an existing petrol model.

There is a business reason too. Honda's domestic sales in September 2026 were 4,465 units, down 15.8% from a year earlier, while Q3 (July to September) sales rose about 20% year on year to 15,864 units. Honda's Q3 exports fell about 25% to 6,883 units. A locally built EV that can also be exported gives the Tapukara plant a new volume option.

Tata Sierra EV: the benchmark Honda has to beat

The Sierra EV was launched on 30 June 2026 and is the obvious yardstick, because it targets the same mid-size electric SUV buyer. These are Tata's stated figures, and they set the bar for the 0 Alpha.

Starting price (ex-showroom)₹18.79 lakh (Pure, 63 kWh)
Top RWD price (ex-showroom)₹24.79 lakh (Empowered A, 75 kWh)

Reports also place the 0 Alpha against the Creta Electric, BE 6, e Vitara and Urban Cruiser Ebella. Honda has not said which of these it is targeting, and positioning will depend on price, range and cabin space.

What to watch on 2 December

Since Honda has shared so little so far, these are the points that will decide whether the 0 Alpha is a real Sierra EV rival:

  1. Battery and claimed range, and the test cycle behind the number.
  2. Charging speed, including the peak DC rate and the 10 to 80% time.
  3. Cabin space, since the upright design suggests Honda is prioritising room.
  4. Equipment and safety, including driver-assistance features.
  5. Price signals, even if Honda only hints at a bracket.
  6. Booking and delivery timeline.

Evfy's Take

This section is our own reading, not a Honda statement.

The most useful way to read the 0 Alpha is against the Sierra EV's range of ₹18.79 lakh to about ₹26 lakh. That spread is wide, which means Honda has room to pick a lane: a lower entry price with a smaller battery, or a premium push on space and brand trust. We think the battery options and the price bracket will tell you more about Honda's intent than the design will.

The reveal-before-price order also matters. By showing the SUV on 2 December without a sale date, Honda keeps buyers watching while it finalises pricing. If it prices aggressively, the Sierra EV's 15-year battery warranty and 665 km claim will be hard numbers for it to match on paper. If it prices high, the brand will have to earn the premium on space and refinement.
