Honda's first electric SUV for India, the 0 Alpha, is still being road-tested across the country, and reports now point to a debut as early as December 2026. Honda has not confirmed that date. What the company has confirmed is a global introduction in FY2026-27, India-based manufacturing at Tapukara, Rajasthan, and testing based on the 0 Alpha concept. No technical specifications have been announced. Reports also say the production name could be revealed in the coming weeks, with sales expected to begin by March 2027.

What Is New: Testing Continues on Indian Roads

Test mules of the production-spec 0 Alpha keep turning up on Indian roads, and the latest round of spy images has renewed talk of an early debut. Honda formally began its pan-India public road verification programme in mid-March 2026, flagging off the first prototype from its Tapukara plant.

Honda says the programme covers highways, congested city roads and rough terrain. It also includes extreme heat, monsoon conditions and varied charging infrastructure, so engineers can check durability, ride comfort, handling, efficiency and charging performance.

Confirmed vs Reported: What Is Solid and What Is Not

Spy-shot coverage tends to blur the line between what a carmaker has said and what outlets are guessing. Here is how we sort it for the 0 Alpha.

Debut Timeline: December Reveal or March Launch?

The reports are not saying the same thing, and the difference is mostly about wording. Some point to a December 2026 debut, with one scenario being a name announcement and key details first, followed by pricing in early 2027. Others point to sales starting by the end of FY2026-27 (March 2027).

Read together, those two timelines fit comfortably: a December unveil or name reveal, then price and deliveries in Q1 2027. Honda's own wording, a global introduction in FY2026-27, covers both.

What the Spy Images Show

The test mule keeps the boxy, upright stance of the concept, with a rectangular grille flanked by LED headlamps, cladding around the wheel arches, flush-fitting door handles and slim LED tail lamps. The silhouette looks unlike any current Honda sold in India.

Inside, the images show a large central touchscreen (reported at around 12 inches) paired with a smaller digital driver display. There is a new steering wheel with paddle shifters for regenerative braking and, notably, physical buttons on the centre console for functions such as climate control and seat ventilation. The dashboard has a scooped design, though this is a prototype and the production cabin could differ.

Who the 0 Alpha Will Compete With

Reports place the 0 Alpha against the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella and Tata Sierra EV. Final positioning depends on price and range, neither of which Honda has announced.

Evfy's Take

The headline gap between "debut" and "launch" is where most of the confusion sits. A December debut would be an unveil, not a showroom date. Honda's own FY2026-27 language leaves room for pricing and deliveries to land in the first quarter of 2027.

There is a second point worth watching. Honda flagged off testing in mid-March, so by December the prototype will have covered roughly nine months of road validation, spanning the hot pre-monsoon months, the monsoon itself and high-altitude routes. That is a long runway for a first EV, and it suggests Honda is treating India as the lead market for this model rather than a follow-on. That reading is our own, not a Honda statement.

The context matters too. Honda reassessed its global EV plans in March 2026 and cancelled other 0 Series programmes, which leaves the India-built 0 Alpha carrying much of the brand's near-term electric story. The reported ₹1,200 crore Tapukara investment points the same way, though that figure comes from an earlier report and Honda has not detailed it.
