MG Motor India has witnessed strong growth in its electric vehicle sales, showing that more buyers in the country are now moving towards EVs. The company, which is a joint venture between China’s SAIC Motor and JSW Group, has become one of the important players in India’s growing electric car market.

In 2025, MG Motor India sold 61,171 electric vehicles. This was a big jump compared to 2024, when the company had sold 28,882 EVs. This means MG’s EV sales more than doubled in just one year, registering a growth of around 111 per cent.

A major reason behind this growth is MG’s early entry into the electric vehicle space in India. The company already has products like the MG ZS EV and MG Comet EV, which have helped it attract different types of buyers. While the MG Windsor appeals to customers looking for a proper electric SUV, the Comet EV has become an option for city users who want a compact and easy-to-drive electric car.

The company’s EV growth has continued in 2026 as well, though at a slower pace compared to last year. Between January and April 2026, MG sold 17,539 electric vehicles. During the same period in 2025, the company had sold 16,220 units. This shows a growth of around 9 per cent, which suggests that the market is now becoming more stable after a phase of very fast growth.

Speaking about this, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, said that the company appreciates the Prime Minister’s appeal encouraging people to make choices that help save money and reduce foreign exchange outflow. He added that the auto industry remains positive about the faster adoption of EVs, as they are cost-effective for customers, support India’s sustainability goals and help reduce crude oil imports.

He also added that as the EV ecosystem continues to grow, charging infrastructure will improve further, making electric vehicle journeys easier and more convenient for users.

MG Motor India is also planning to expand its electrified vehicle portfolio in the country. The company is expected to launch its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in India later this year. This move shows that MG is not only focusing on pure electric vehicles but is also looking at other electrified technologies to meet changing customer needs.
