After targeting the premium EV segment with EV6 and EV9, Kia is now shifting gears to focus on mass-market EV segment in India. With the recent launch of the India-exclusive Carens Clavis EV, Kia is now focusing on the electric version of the Syros, adding their first EV to the mid-entry level segment. The Kia Syros EV has now been spotted testing in India at a charging station in Kochi.Minimal Exterior ChangesApart from EV-specific features, Kia Syros EV will be almost similar to its ICE counterpart. The test mule was seen heavily camouflaged at the front and rear and up to the window line. Visible parts like the pillars, ORVMs and roof rails are all the same as the Syros ICE version. A shark-fin antenna is also visible. There will be EV-specific features such as closed-off grille and a slot for the charging port. Previous spy shots revealed that the charging port will be placed on the left side near the rear tire.Additionally, the lighting elements at the front and rear appear to be the same as the ICE Syros. It is expected that the Syros EV will get a few extra detailing at the front and rear, though the side profile will largely be the same. There might be EV-specific badging on the sides. The test vehicle spotted earlier has alloy wheels, same as the ICE Syros. The only visible difference was the green-colored brake calipers, hinting at the vehicle’s electric underpinning. EV-specific badging is also possible at the rear.Dimensions are expected to remain the same — 3,995 mm long, 1,805 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall. Kia Syros has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm which will likely be the same for the electric version.Kia offers the ICE Syros with 8 monotone colors but the EV version is expected to have some exclusive colors as well.Kia Syros EV — Performance, Battery and RangeAlthough the vehicle hasn’t been launched and there hasn’t been any confirmation for the specs, it is expected that the Kia Syros EV will have the same battery packs as the Hyundai Inster EV.This means two battery pack options of around 42 kWh and 49 kWh will be offered. Both batteries are expected to be NMC batteries. Range is expected to be around 370 km for the larger battery pack and fast charging would be around 30 minutes.Kia Syros EV will primarily challenge Tata’s Punch EV and MG Windsor EV. Select variants might also compete with the likes of Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV.In line with this, the expected price of the Syros EV is around ₹15 Lakh and could go up to ₹21 Lakh. For reference, Kia Syros ICE is priced at ₹9.50 Lakh and goes up to ₹17.80 Lakh. Since the EV price difference is usually due to the battery cost, a 40% price hike is expected when compared to the ICE variant. This can be seem in Kia Carens Clavis EV which is priced at ₹17.99-24.49 Lakh, in comparison to Kia Carens Clavis ICE which is at ₹11.50-21.50 Lakh.
