Chakan acts as their dedicated EV production plant, for Mahindra’s entire EV lineup which includes XEV 9e, BE 6, XUV400, and soon the newly launched XEV 9S.Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director at Mahindra, has stated that there are plans to increase the monthly production capacity for the EVs from the current 4,000-5,000 range to 8,000 units by the end of FY2026.Chakan Plant Operating Capacity will Increase to 8,000 units per MonthWhat’s more is that the Chaka plant has a peak capacity of 10,000 units per month, and Mahindra will reach a operating capacity of 8,000 units a month by March 2026. Jejurikar emphasized that its is “to make sure the supply chain, vendor ecosystem, and workforce are prepared to run consistently at that level.”According to reports, around 7.5 percent of Mahindra’s monthly sales come from EVs, and the BE 6 and XEV 9e together account for about 7 percent of its overall volumes. The new XEV 9S is expected to take this number even higher, and Mahindra estimates that by 2028, 20-25 percent of its sales will come from its electric models.Mahindra is yet to disclose how the increased production capacity will be allocated among their EV lineup, which Jejurikar said will depend on the demand. Three battery pack choices are available: 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh. All variants support 180 kW peak DC fast charging, enabling shorter stops and longer trips. Scheduled charging is available for users who want to optimize cost or charge during non-peak hours.Under the hood, or more accurately at the rear axle, lies a single electric motor producing 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.
