After the successful transformation from the XUV300 to the XUV3XO, Mahindra is now turning its attention to the electric space. The XUV3XO EV, recently spied on test, will replace the XUV400 and take its place as Mahindra’s new contender in the compact electric SUV space. This move is clearly aimed at taking on the segment leader, the Tata Nexon EV.
Why XUV3XO EV matters
The XUV400, at over 4.2 metres in length, never really fit into the compact SUV segment’s sweet spot. Now, with the new XUV3XO EV, Mahindra is shrinking the dimensions to make the product more accessible and appealing. This also brings better alignment with the ICE XUV3XO model, allowing Mahindra to benefit from shared parts, body panels and trims. Cost efficiency, after all, is key in this highly competitive space.
Test mule looks production ready
The latest spy shots from the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway show a heavily camouflaged test mule, but the silhouette and proportions are unmistakably XUV3XO. The alloy wheels are new, and the charging port sits on the front-left quarter panel, same as the outgoing XUV400. The size appears identical to the ICE XUV3XO, which means boot space will likely remain at 364 litres, thanks to the new packaging strategy Mahindra adopted.

Shared cabin, premium appeal
Interiors are also expected to mirror the ICE version, soft-touch materials, leatherette seats, and that twin 10.25-inch screen layout. Features like a panoramic sunroof, camera-based ADAS, dual-zone climate control, and a 360-degree camera are expected to carry over. Mahindra might throw in a few blue or copper accents to highlight the EV credentials.
Battery, range and performance
The XUV3XO EV is likely to be offered with two battery options, a 34.5 kWh pack with 375 km of claimed range and a larger 39.4 kWh pack with 456 km range. The motor is expected to produce 150 PS of power and 310 Nm of torque, which should translate to strong acceleration, even more so now that the body is smaller and potentially lighter than the XUV400.
Launch timeline
Mahindra is eyeing the festive season of 2025 for the launch of XUV3XO EV. With shared components, improved packaging, and a promising feature list, this could be the strongest rival yet to the Nexon EV. A lot depends on the pricing, but for now, the XUV3XO EV looks well on track.
