Mercedes-AMG unveiled the all-electric GT SUV on 17 October 2026, the brand's first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house. It arrives in three variants: the GT 53 (400 kW, about 544 PS), the GT 55 (600 kW, about 816 PS) and the GT 63 (860 kW, about 1,169 PS). The GT 55 and GT 63 pair a 128 kWh battery with up to 710 kW DC charging and a claimed 700 km WLTP range. Only the GT 53 has a published price so far: €113,050 in Germany, with orders opening on 20 October 2026. Mercedes-AMG has not announced an India launch or price.

What Mercedes-AMG unveiled

The GT SUV is the second production model on AMG.EA, the dedicated electric architecture that debuted with the GT 4-Door Coupé in May 2026. Mercedes-AMG calls it the first full-size SUV it has developed entirely in-house, and its tagline for the car is "SUV by shape, GT by nature". Reports say it will be built at Sindelfingen in Germany.

The SUV keeps the sibling's three powertrain choices. The two top versions, however, get a bigger battery and faster peak charging than the four-door. It is a five-seater with a low, driver-focused seating position.

Variants and specs

All three variants use AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The GT 55 and GT 63 run three axial flux motors, while the GT 53 uses two synchronous motors with a two-speed transmission on the rear axle.

Mercedes-AMG says all figures are provisional. No officially recognised testing body has confirmed them, and EC type approval has not been issued, so final numbers may differ.

One note on units: 1,169 PS and about 1,153 bhp are the same output (860 kW), quoted in metric and mechanical horsepower. Peak power is available for short bursts, while the continuous rating is what the car can sustain.

Battery and charging

The GT 55 and GT 63 get a 128 kWh, 800-volt battery that Mercedes-AMG says draws on Formula 1-inspired technology, with directly cooled cylindrical cells. Peak DC charging is 710 kW, and Mercedes-AMG says a 10 to 80 per cent charge takes about 12 minutes. In 10 minutes at a 710 kW charger, the company claims up to 454 km of WLTP range can be added.

The GT 53 keeps the smaller 106 kWh pack with a 600 kW peak, good for 440 km added in 10 minutes. Reports put its 10 to 80 per cent time at about 11 minutes and AC charging for the range at up to 11 kW.

These are peak-condition claims. They need a charger that can deliver the full power, with the battery at the right temperature and state of charge.

Performance and driving tech

  • Three-motor layout: reports say the GT 55 and GT 63 put one motor on the front axle and two on the rear, which allows extra torque vectoring at the back.
  • AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+: this suspension replaces conventional anti-roll bars with active hydraulics to control roll, dive and squat. It is standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55.
  • Rear-axle steering: reports say it comes as standard, with up to 6 degrees of steering angle.
  • AMG RACE ENGINEER: the GT 63 and GT 55 get three rotary controls that change how direct and agile the car feels.
  • AMGFORCE Sport+: this mode plays an AMG V8 soundtrack (GT 63 and GT 55) or a six-cylinder soundtrack (GT 53), with simulated gear changes and seat shakers.

Design, cabin and space

Up front, the GT SUV has an upright nose with Powerdome bonnet ridges. At the back, it gets pronounced rear shoulders, flared wings and a roofline that tapers low towards the spoiler. Reports quote a drag coefficient of 0.27.

Reports add an optional 14-inch passenger screen. You sit low in the car rather than in a raised SUV position, while rear passengers get generous head and legroom.

"Reported" here means the figure appears across multiple launch reports but not on Mercedes-AMG's global model page. Treat the euro price as a starting figure for one market, since it does not translate directly into an India price.

Is the AMG GT SUV coming to India?

Not confirmed. As of 19 October 2026, we have found no India launch date or India price from Mercedes-Benz India for the GT SUV.

Mercedes-Benz India's next confirmed electric moment is the Electric GLC, which launches on 4 November 2026 and is locally assembled at Chakan, near Pune. It is a very different car from the AMG GT SUV, but it shows where the brand's India EV effort is focused right now.

Ultra-luxury electric performance cars are also arriving in India in stages. The first electric Ferrari, the Luce, is on show in New Delhi as a showcase with no sales launch announced.

GT 63 SUV vs Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric

The closest rival already on sale in India is the Cayenne Turbo Electric, which was launched on 30 September 2026. Here is how the two compare on manufacturer claims.

Both power figures are peak or overboost numbers, so they say little about sustained output. The Mercedes-AMG figures are also provisional.

Final Takeaway

The GT SUV is Mercedes-AMG's second dedicated electric model and its most charging-focused one yet. The GT 63 headlines at 1,169 PS, but the GT 55 matches it for sustained output, and only the GT 53 has a price so far, at €113,050 in Germany. For Indian buyers, the practical points are simple: there is no India launch date, and 710 kW charging has no matching public infrastructure here today. Watch for a Mercedes-Benz India announcement, and for final type-approved figures when deliveries begin in 2027.
