The Maharashtra government has officially rolled out its Electric Vehicle Policy 2025. With a massive investment of ₹1,995 crore, the plan focuses on making EVs more accessible and convenient by offering strong incentives, removing tolls, and building charging stations every 25 km on highways. The policy will remain valid till 2030.Subsidies for 13 vehicle categoriesEarlier, only a few EV categories received benefits. Now, that number has gone up to 13. In addition to electric scooters, cars, and buses, commercial vehicles like electric trucks, trailers, dumper trucks, agri-tractors, and utility vehicles used by civic bodies are now also eligible for incentives.10% subsidy on the base price of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers (private), and buses15% subsidy on electric commercial vehicles and tractorsWaiver on registration charges, road tax, and renewal fees for all EVs registered in MaharashtraToll-free travel for EVsEV owners of four-wheelers and buses can now skip toll payments on:Mumbai–Pune ExpresswayMumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu)Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway)For other state and national highways, EVs will get 50% off on toll charges in a phased rollout.Charging stations every 25 kmRange anxiety? The new policy addresses it by mandating a charging station every 25 km along highways. Oil companies will help set up chargers at fuel stations, and municipalities will be required to allocate 1% of their annual budget for EV infrastructure.Aiming for 30% EVs by 2030The state aims for 30% of all new vehicle registrations to be electric by 2030. With more categories now getting benefits and a clear roadmap to expand the charging network, this target looks more achievable than ever.Speaking on the policy, CM Devendra Fadnavis said it’s a big step towards cleaner air and greener transportation. Transport officials have also hinted that if needed, more incentives could be introduced.
