Tata Motors has made a key change to its Punch EV lineup. The company has officially discontinued all the AC Fast Charging (ACFC) variants of the Punch EV. This move is aimed at making things easier for customers during the buying process.Earlier, Tata Motors offered as many as six ACFC variants with the Punch EV Long Range models. These included the Adventure LR ACFC, Adventure S LR ACFC, Empowered LR ACFC, Empowered S LR ACFC, Empowered+ LR ACFC, and Empowered+ S LR ACFC. Each of these came with a 7.2 kW AC fast charger as standard. The idea behind offering so many options was to give customers more choice, but Tata has now realised that too many options can also lead to confusion. According to the company, this step will simplify the line-up and help buyers make quicker and more informed decisions. The 7.2 kW charger could charge the car from 10% to 100% in about 5 hours. In comparison, non-ACFC variants take over 13 hours for the same. This charger added about ₹50,000 to the price of each variant.Tata Motors has now decided to stop making these variants. However, if dealers still have them in stock, they will be available for purchase until sold out. The prices of the regular non-ACFC variants will not be affected. The Punch EV is available in two versions:Medium Range (MR) with a 25 kWh battery and a claimed range of 265 km. It delivers 80 bhp and 114 Nm.Long Range (LR) with a 35 kWh battery and a claimed range of 365 km. It produces 120 bhp and 190 Nm and can go from 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. With this update, Tata Motors is trying to improve the overall experience for EV buyers by offering a more straightforward variant selection process.
