Vietnam's pioneering electric vehicle manufacturer, VinFast, is setting an aggressive pace for its Indian market entry. Following a showcase of its EV portfolio at the Auto Expo 2025, the company has now unveiled comprehensive plans encompassing model launches, domestic production, and a unique ownership strategy. Far from a gradual introduction, VinFast is poised to flood the market with three distinct electric SUVs- the VF7, VF6, and VF3. All are scheduled to debut by the close of 2026.VinFast's strategy involves addressing varied segments of the Indian EV landscape:VF 7 (The Mid-Size Statement) : Expected to arrive by September 2025, the VF 7 is presented as VinFast's flagship SUV. It boasts a sleek, coupe-inspired design, featuring sharp lines and striking LED light bars front and rear, a result of collaboration with Italian design house Torino Design. Globally available in Eco and Plus trims, the Eco offers 174 PS / 250 Nm (FWD) and a 75.3 kWh battery for an estimated 450 km WLTP range. The Plus variant escalates performance with 349 PS / 500 Nm and All-Wheel Drive (AWD). Advanced features like a large touchscreen, digital driver display, ADAS, panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting are anticipated.VF 6 (The Urban-Family Navigator) : Also slated for a September 2025 arrival, the VF 6 is a compact electric SUV, measuring approximately 4.3 meters. Designed for city commuting and family journeys, it's set to vie with upcoming electric compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, and Mahindra BE 6. Both Eco and Plus variants are exclusively FWD. The Eco provides 174 PS / 250 Nm with a 59.6 kWh battery (approx. 399 km range), while the Plus boosts power to 201 PS / 250 Nm from the same 59.6 kWh battery (approx. 381 km range). Interior highlights include a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, connected car technology, a minimalist dashboard, and driver aids like lane-keep assistance and adaptive cruise control.VF 3 (The Micro City Explorer) : Scheduled for an early 2026 launch, the VF 3 is a sub-3-meter micro-SUV tailored for bustling city environments. Despite its diminutive size, it exudes an aggressive SUV stance with flared arches and robust bumpers. Featuring a rear-wheel-drive configuration, it's touted to offer around 200 km of range, powered by a small battery (specifications to follow). Positioned as a budget-friendly EV for young consumers, it will compete directly with the MG Comet EV.Battery Subscription & AssuranceIn a move to potentially reduce the upfront cost of EV ownership, VinFast may introduce a battery subscription option in India. This model would allow buyers to purchase the vehicle sans battery, paying a monthly subscription fee for battery usage- a concept akin to MG's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). While precise warranty terms and costs will be revealed closer to launch, VinFast indicates that competitive terms are to be expected.Local Production and Expanding NetworkVinFast is cementing its commitment to India with a substantial USD 2 billion investment for its operations, commencing with an initial USD 500 million phase. A dedicated manufacturing facility is already taking shape in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, with an initial production capacity of 50,000 units annually, scalable to 150,000 units. This Indian plant is not only for domestic supply but is also designated as a global export hub for VinFast.Beyond manufacturing, the company is actively establishing a comprehensive dealership and service network, reaching into not just metros but also Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to foster broader EV adoption. Bookings are expected to commence by late June.
