BMW i5 LWB Launch and Delivery Details
BMW India officially launched the i5 Long Wheelbase on 7 September 2026. The electric sedan is being produced at BMW Group's Chennai plant, making it the company's first locally produced electric sedan in India. Deliveries have begun immediately, according to BMW India.
Customers can book the BMW i5 LWB through BMW dealerships across India and BMW India's official website.
BMW i5 LWB Dimensions
One of the biggest highlights of the i5 LWB is its size. BMW says the model is the biggest car in its segment and offers a particularly spacious cabin.
| Dimension | BMW i5 LWB |
| Length | 5,175 mm |
| Width | 2,156 mm |
| Height | 1,520 mm |
| Wheelbase | 3,105 mm |
The extended 3,105 mm wheelbase is particularly important for the rear passenger experience, giving the sedan generous rear legroom and a more chauffeur-oriented cabin.
BMW i5 LWB Battery and Range
The BMW i5 eDrive35L is equipped with an 81.6 kWh gross-capacity high-voltage battery. BMW claims a maximum range of 669 km, measured under the MIDC test cycle.
The electric sedan uses BMW's integrated eDrive technology, which combines the electric motor, single-speed transmission and power electronics into a single housing.

- 0-100 km/h: 6.7 seconds
- Top speed: 195 km/h
- Battery: 81.6 kWh

This makes the i5 LWB more than just a rear-seat-focused luxury EV, with BMW also emphasizing its driving dynamics.
BMW i5 LWB Charging Time
The BMW i5 LWB supports DC fast charging at up to 160 kW. BMW says the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 33 minutes under suitable charging conditions.

This gives buyers both a convenient home-charging solution and the ability to make use of high-power DC charging for longer journeys.
BMW i5 LWB Exterior Design
The BMW i5 LWB gets a distinctive executive-sedan design with a long, flowing silhouette. Its dimensions, steeply inclined A-pillar and flowing roofline give it a substantial road presence.

Other exterior highlights include:
- 20-inch M alloy wheels

With a 669 km MIDC claimed range, 160 kW DC charging, rear-axle air suspension and a heavily equipped cabin, the i5 LWB is positioned as a premium electric executive sedan that can serve both as a driver's car and a chauffeur-driven luxury vehicle.
BMW i5 LWB: Final Verdict
The BMW i5 LWB arrives in India at an introductory price of ₹79.60 lakh, making its long-wheelbase electric luxury proposition particularly notable. It combines a large 81.6 kWh battery, a claimed 669 km MIDC range and 268 hp with an interior focused heavily on rear-seat comfort.
Its local production, air suspension, spacious cabin, premium audio system, panoramic glass roof and extensive technology package further strengthen its appeal.
