Suzuki will start selling the e SKY, its first passenger kei EV, in Japan on 16 November 2026. Announced on 6 October, the three-trim lineup is priced from ¥2.12 million to ¥2.79 million (about ₹12.7 lakh to ₹16.7 lakh) before a national subsidy of ¥568,000. Every trim carries a 26 kWh LFP battery rated at 310 km on the WLTC cycle, but only the G and X trims get 50 kW DC fast charging. Suzuki is targeting 1,000 units a month. The company has not confirmed any India plans for the e SKY.

What Suzuki Announced

Suzuki confirmed the e SKY's launch date, pricing and full specifications on 6 October 2026, about six weeks before sales begin on Monday, 16 November. It is Suzuki's first passenger kei EV and the first electric kei car the company has developed and will build on its own. Suzuki's earlier electric kei, the commercial e Every, is supplied by Daihatsu on an OEM basis.

The e SKY is the production version of the Vision e-Sky concept shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. Suzuki built it around an "Easy to Switch" idea: a kei car that feels familiar to anyone moving over from a petrol model.

e SKY Price and Variants in Japan

Suzuki lists three trims. All prices include Japan's 10% consumption tax and are before subsidy. Rupee figures are Evfy's approximate conversions at roughly ₹0.60 per yen and will move with the exchange rate.

TrimPrice (¥, tax included)Approx. in ₹Key difference
A (build-to-order)¥2,120,000₹12.7 lakhAC charging only, no DC fast charging
G¥2,390,000₹14.3 lakhAdds 50 kW DC fast charging, heat pump, seat and steering heaters
G with 10.1-inch display (option)¥2,590,000₹15.5 lakh¥200,000 factory option for display audio with all-round monitor
X¥2,790,000₹16.7 lakhAdds adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, in-car AC socket

The A trim is built to order, so buyers should expect to configure and wait rather than pick one off a lot. Reports describe the ¥2.12 million starting price as the lowest for any passenger EV currently sold in Japan, a claim we have not verified against every maker's price list.

Subsidy and Effective Price

Buyers can claim a national clean energy vehicle subsidy of ¥568,000 on every trim, for registrations notified up to 31 December 2026. The e SKY also qualifies for exemption from the vehicle weight tax under the eco-car tax relief.

TrimPrice after ¥568,000 subsidyApprox. in ₹
A¥1,552,000₹9.3 lakh
G¥1,822,000₹10.9 lakh
G with display¥2,022,000₹12.1 lakh
X¥2,222,000₹13.3 lakh

These are vehicle prices only. Registration, insurance, paint options and other fees are extra, and local subsidies from prefectures or cities can lower the figure further.

Suzuki describes the 97 Wh/km figure as the best among kei EVs based on its own survey as of October 2026. Suzuki's president said development started at roughly 230 km of range, and the team added about 80 km through many small efficiency gains.

Charging: What Each Trim Gets

Charging methodTrimsTime
3 kW ACA, G, XAbout 8 hours
6 kW ACA, G, XAbout 4.5 hours
50 kW DC fastG and X onlyAbout 25 minutes to 80%

Times are Suzuki's estimates starting from the low-battery warning light. Suzuki's president also said a fast charge of about 5 minutes adds roughly 50 km of range, which is a company statement rather than a tested figure. The charging cable is sold separately.

Suzuki expects most owners to charge at home overnight, since kei cars often cover only 20 to 30 km a day. To support buyers, Suzuki says AC chargers are already installed at 900+ dealerships. It plans to raise DC fast chargers to about 250 dealerships by the end of 2026 and has a goal of covering roughly half its dealers by 2030.

The G and X trims also support V2L and V2H through the DC port, with compatible equipment sold separately.

Rival prices are as reported at the time of writing and may have changed with later updates, so check each maker's current list before relying on them. Fast charging is standard on some rival trims and optional on others, and on the e SKY it requires stepping up from A to G.

Rollout: Japan, Europe and India

  • Japan: On sale from 16 November 2026. This is the only market Suzuki has confirmed.
  • Europe: Reports point to a UK and Italy arrival from 2027, with a UK price under £20,000. Suzuki has not confirmed export plans or specifications for any other market.
  • India: No launch has been confirmed. Suzuki's kei rules and the e SKY's size are set for Japan, and Maruti Suzuki has not announced an India version.

Evfy's Take

The headline price is only half the story. We went back to our coverage of the concept: in October 2025 Suzuki was talking about a 20 to 25 kWh pack and up to 270 km. The production car arrives with 26 kWh and 310 km, so Suzuki delivered about 40 km more than the concept promise while staying near the top of that battery range.

The real decision for Japanese buyers sits between trims. The A trim looks cheapest but is the most limited: no DC fast charging and no heat pump. Add the ¥200,000 display to the G and you are at ¥2.59 million, only ¥200,000 below the X, which then adds adaptive cruise control and the in-car AC socket. In practice, the G with the display option is the awkward middle. Buyers who want driver-assist features will find the X better value than that combination.

Suzuki's dealer charging push is the other detail worth watching. Putting DC chargers in roughly 250 dealerships this year is a bet that a kei EV buyer's real worry is a quick top-up away from home, not daily range.
