The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric has secured a five-star rating from Green NCAP, the independent European organisation that evaluates vehicles based on their environmental performance. The electric sedan also achieved an impressive overall score of 91 %, making it one of the highest-rated vehicles tested by the agency.
Green NCAP praised the CLA Electric for its combination of efficiency, long driving range, rapid charging capability and low lifecycle emissions. The organisation noted that strong environmental performance is no longer limited to small EVs with compact battery packs.
Strong Efficiency
One of the key highlights of the assessment was the CLA Electric's efficiency. Despite being powered by a large 90 kWh battery pack and weighing nearly two tonnes, the sedan delivered excellent energy consumption figures.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the CLA Electric has a WLTP-rated energy consumption of 12.2 kWh per 100 km. During Green NCAP's testing, the vehicle continued to demonstrate impressive efficiency thanks to its aerodynamic design, optimised powertrain and advanced energy management systems.

The testing body also estimated the car's total lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions at approximately 119g of CO2-equivalent per kilometre.

Up To 690 Km Range In Testing
The CLA Electric also impressed with its range performance across different driving conditions.

Green NCAP recorded a maximum tested range of up to 690 km during warm-weather rural driving. In urban conditions, the estimated range stood at 651 km. Even in cold-weather motorway testing at temperatures as low as -7 degrees Celsius, the electric sedan managed an estimated range of 456 km.
These figures highlight the vehicle's ability to deliver long-distance usability while reducing range anxiety for buyers.
Fast Charging Adds To Convenience
Charging performance was another area where the CLA Electric stood out. During testing, the sedan achieved peak charging speeds of up to 342 kW. This allowed the battery to charge from 10 % to 80 % in around 23 minutes, making it one of the quickest-charging EVs in its segment.
Commenting on the results, Green NCAP highlighted that Mercedes-Benz has shown how larger and more practical electric vehicles can still achieve excellent environmental performance.
The latest recognition comes shortly after the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. With strong results in both safety and sustainability assessments, the electric sedan continues to strengthen its position as one of the most advanced EVs in Mercedes-Benz's global lineup.
